The Exam Game
By JohnnyAs the fall semester at Georgetown University winds down and students are dealing with the anxiety of final papers and exams, Coach Thompson can look at the Hoyas’ basketball schedule and breathe a sigh of relief. Tomorrow night’s game against the Radford University Highlanders will be a nice opportunity for the team to get another forty minutes of experience while not wearing themselves too thin.
Having played three games already in December with major papers and assignments being due, the Georgetown Hoyas head into tomorrow night’s game with the added pressure of being in the middle of exam week. “I think a lot of times the fans – everyone forgets that they’re going to school,” Thompson said. “And now we go into a high stress level period of time on campus, and so you think of that as you put the schedule together.”
In putting that schedule together, Coach Thompson and his staff made room for what he calls, “The Exam Game.” This game will be played at Georgetown’s on-campus arena, McDonough Gymnasium, so it will be easier for the students to get to the game on time and to get back to studying as quickly as possible. The fact that the Exam Game is against a team that only managed eight wins last season should also make it a bit easier on the Hoyas during this stressful stretch of the year.
This does not mean that the team should look past Radford and chalk it up as a win. One need only look at last year’s loss to Old Dominion in McDonough to see that no game is a guaranteed victory. But with the way JTIII has set up this season’s schedule, the Hoyas are in a good position to succeed at both halves of their job as student-athletes.
