Radford In-Game Thread
By JohnnyHey everybody, Johnny here for the only game on campus this season. As you walk up to McDonough, there are signs that read SOLD OUT and lines of people forming already. Gates don’t open until 6:30, so it’s pretty quiet for now. But I’ll fill everybody in with updates as we get closer to tip-off.
For now, I can tell you that the refs are going to be William Bush, Bryan Kersey, and Ron Tyburski. We’ve had Bush and Kersey before, but I’ve never heard of Tyburski.
Stay tuned for more.

December 15th, 2007 at 6:17 pm
Looks like they’re letting people in a little earlier than they had originally said, so if you are planning on coming out to the game, hurry up and get over here quick. Seats are first come first serve.
December 15th, 2007 at 6:24 pm
More fans keep piling in, and the Hoyas, who’ve been warming up for the past ten minute or so, are going to be in their gray uniforms again tonight. Radford will be wearing their away red.
December 15th, 2007 at 6:25 pm
Come on Hoyas, let’s get another win. No letups at McDonough this year!
December 15th, 2007 at 7:20 pm
15 minutes till opening tip and McDonough is packed. The students have come out in full force despite it being exam week, and we’re all just waiting for the game to begin.
December 15th, 2007 at 7:38 pm
The Chimes just finished up the National Anthem, and now it’s time for the starting lineups:
For Radford: McDuffy, Johnson, Thomas, Hall, and Lynch-Flohr
For the Hoyas, it’s your usual 5: Sapp, Wallace, Summers, Ewing, and Hibbert
Without the cool opening video and the lights going out for the starting lineups, pregame at McDonough is a little less exciting than over in Chinatown
December 15th, 2007 at 7:38 pm
Let’s go Hoyas!! Win one at our real home
December 15th, 2007 at 7:39 pm
Hoyas win the tip and Sapp misses a runner on the first possession
December 15th, 2007 at 7:40 pm
Wallace starts the scoring with a three pointer, and then DaJuan stepped out of bounds as he was trying to steal a Radford pass.
December 15th, 2007 at 7:41 pm
Now DaJuan hits a three and its 6-0 Hoyas after a minute and a half
December 15th, 2007 at 7:42 pm
Johnson’s 3 puts Radford on the board, and all points have come from downtown.
December 15th, 2007 at 7:43 pm
Nice going Pat!
December 15th, 2007 at 7:44 pm
Ewing gets an offensive rebound, a bucket, and a foul. He hits the free throw to put the Hoyas up 8. Meanwhile, Radford already has five fouls, and two players with two a piece
December 15th, 2007 at 7:45 pm
Freeman is the first sub for the Hoyas and he picks up a quick foul.
December 15th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
Way to stick with it Jessie!
December 15th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
Sapp’s 3 put the Hoyas up 18-3 and Radford needs a timeout with 15:45 to go in the first.
December 15th, 2007 at 7:47 pm
Nice start Hoyas!!
December 15th, 2007 at 7:49 pm
Summers just split a pair of defenders and slammed it home. On the other end Freeman picked up his 2nd foul
December 15th, 2007 at 7:54 pm
Crawford’s seeing some early playing time and he just hit a baseline jumper
December 15th, 2007 at 7:56 pm
Lots of fouls already in this game. Hope it doesn’t get too choppy
December 15th, 2007 at 7:57 pm
Way to go Tyler. Nice steal, great layup, and four points already!
December 15th, 2007 at 8:00 pm
Line change for the Hoyas – 4 startersr returning and Freeman for Ewing
December 15th, 2007 at 8:04 pm
Summers’ layup made it 38-14 and Radford needed another timeout
December 15th, 2007 at 8:05 pm
Nice block Roy!
December 15th, 2007 at 8:05 pm
Hoyas look pretty sharp out there and they’re playing very fast paced. Keep it up!!
December 15th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
At the 8:00 timeout the Hoyas are already up 26 points, 40-14 and they have made five three pointers. Two from Wallace is good to see.
December 15th, 2007 at 8:07 pm
Yeah, Wallace still has his touch. Glad to see him hitting his first couple shots again unlike the last few games.
December 15th, 2007 at 8:10 pm
Way to go DaJuan!!
December 15th, 2007 at 8:11 pm
After a steal, layup, and a foul, Summers gets subbed out as a part of another line change — Now it’s Rivers, Wright, Crawford, Ewing, and Macklin
December 15th, 2007 at 8:12 pm
Hit your freethrows. But still, nice work with the rebound Pat
December 15th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
After an alley-oop gone bad, Ewing gets called for a T
December 15th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
After Jeremiah committed a foul, there was a scuffle under the basket, in which Wright and Crawford got into it with some Highlanders. We’ll have to wait and see what the aftermath is.
December 15th, 2007 at 8:28 pm
Looks like no Technicals were called.
December 15th, 2007 at 8:29 pm
On a last second three, Freeman was fouled by Radford’s Jenkins. The players are lining up, but there’s no time left on the clock.
December 15th, 2007 at 8:30 pm
Now they’ve added 0.4 seconds
December 15th, 2007 at 8:30 pm
These refs have lost control over this one.
December 15th, 2007 at 8:31 pm
And that’s the half with the Hoyas up 52-28. Still, McDonough is loud with boos aimed at the officials.
December 15th, 2007 at 8:48 pm
To start the second half, Johnson scored a pull up jumper and he has 10 of Radford’s 30.
December 15th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
Oh my!!
December 15th, 2007 at 8:51 pm
Nice give and go between Pat and Roy leads to a big flush from Ewing.
December 15th, 2007 at 8:51 pm
And that layup is Roy’s first points on the night.
December 15th, 2007 at 8:52 pm
Wow- looks like they didn’t need ROy this game
December 15th, 2007 at 8:56 pm
Looks like Roy is unhappy with 0 points in the first. Now he’s going to the line for the first time.
But first the 16:00 timeout, Hoyas up 63-36
December 15th, 2007 at 9:01 pm
Way to stick with the play, Roy
December 15th, 2007 at 9:02 pm
When are we gonna see Omar?
December 15th, 2007 at 9:03 pm
Send it in Big Fella!
December 15th, 2007 at 9:04 pm
After a monstrous jam by Macklin, and a fast break layup and then a three by Freeman, the Hoyas are up 77-40 and Radford needs a timeout.
December 15th, 2007 at 9:05 pm
Not sure how much good it’ll do. They can’t even stop the bleeding.
December 15th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
Great play by Wright as he cut into the lane, got a layup, and was fouled.
December 15th, 2007 at 9:10 pm
The cheerleaders just did a little Christmas celebration, and at the end, they made a pyramid with the top cheerleader holding up a star.
I guess that would make it a tree, not a pyramid.
December 15th, 2007 at 9:12 pm
Wow.
December 15th, 2007 at 9:12 pm
Way to stay with the play!
December 15th, 2007 at 9:13 pm
With the shot clock running out, Wright drove to the lane and put up a runner that was way short. But Freeman grabbed the rebound off the airball and made a quick turn around jumper as the clock expired.
December 15th, 2007 at 9:17 pm
Winning by 40 at the eight minute timeout, and the Hoyas are bringing Sapp, Wallace, and Hibbert back off the bench.
What else can you do though? The second 5 had been out there for a long time.
December 15th, 2007 at 9:17 pm
What else can you do? Wattad and Jansen.
December 15th, 2007 at 9:18 pm
@DJ
In comes Omar Wattad.
December 15th, 2007 at 9:21 pm
Fast break 3 by Wallace – he’s having a nice game for himself. 4-4 from the field, 3-3 from behind the arc.
December 15th, 2007 at 9:21 pm
Too bad Nikita can’t play yet.
December 15th, 2007 at 9:23 pm
WOW!
December 15th, 2007 at 9:23 pm
Steal by Summers, fast break dunk by Summers, intentional foul on Radford.
December 15th, 2007 at 9:25 pm
Omar just hit a 3 to give the Hoyas 100 points, and the crowd here is going wild. 100-47 with 5 minutes left and Rivers going to the line.
December 15th, 2007 at 9:25 pm
“OMAR! OMAR! OMAR!” — fans.
December 15th, 2007 at 9:27 pm
To say this is a massacre would be an understatement. The Hoyas are sending the nation a message.
December 15th, 2007 at 9:29 pm
And now:
“BRYAN JANSEN! BRYAN JANSEN! BRYAN JANSEN” — fans.
December 15th, 2007 at 9:33 pm
The last time the Hoyas had 100 points without going into overtime was in 2001 against Grambling, also at McDonough. Hoyas won that game 103-69
December 15th, 2007 at 9:33 pm
Nice move Vernon!
December 15th, 2007 at 9:35 pm
“WE WANT MEMPHIS! WE WANT MEMPHIS! WE WANT MEMPHIS!” — the fans.
December 15th, 2007 at 9:36 pm
Finally, the Hoyas put on the brakes with under a minute to go.
December 15th, 2007 at 9:38 pm
And there’s the final score: 110 – 51. Highest output by a JTIII team, and the first time the Hoyas doubled their opponent’s score in a looong time.
December 15th, 2007 at 9:38 pm
Nice work Hoyas. Now keep it up next Saturday!
December 15th, 2007 at 9:42 pm
And by “a looong time” I mean last year, the last time we played here on campus
