Some thoughts on the game:

Great win. We didn’t play our best yet again came back to win.

We didn’t penetrate the Cuse zone for enough 10-15 footers. We had a few looks in the first half but missed, then we got into mostly going into the post or shooting threes. Of course one of the biggest baskets was Roy’s mid-range jumper in OT.

What about Wallace’s barrage of 3s. Even though he missed a few badly later it looks like his shot is back.

I agree the refs were balanced. They let a lot go both ways. In past years (e.g. 2004 NIT final where phantom calls 40 feet from the basket sent St. John’s to the stripe for the winning free throws) Cuse would have shot 30 free throws.

Rebounding is still an issue. Without all the offensive rebounds allowed GU would have won much more easily.

Tyler Crawford is earning playing time. He’s a tough defender and rebounded and gives the team energy. He can also hit an open 3.

Great defense by Rivers particularly on the last possession forcing a very long contested 3

A minor point, at the end of the first half Cuse made a 3 to cut it to 7 and then they knocked the ball away. Because of the inane rule that the clock does not stop on made baskets at the end of the first half GU lost about 5 precious seconds before we could get the ball upcourt and just miss a hurried last second shot. Ted Hillary could have used his judgement (what judgement?) and stopped the clock but also JT3 could have called his use or lose TO the minute the shot went through to save some time..

Good Win Hoyas – keep it up
