Big East and Kenner League Schedules Released

By Hoya Hoops
  • The trials for the USA Basketball U-18 National Team took place this past week at the Verizon Center. Coach Thompson, one of the assistants on the team, watched as the USA hopefuls were narrowed down to a group of 14. The team will practice this week at the Verizon Center and at McDonough before heading to Argentina for the 2008 FIBA Americas U18 Championship scheduled for July 14-18. Hollis Thompson, a Georgetown commit from the high school class of 2009, did not make the final team.
  • Sophomore Julian Vaughn, who transferred to Georgetown this spring from Florida State, will not have to sit out a year before playing for the Hoyas. The NCAA granted him a waiver from that rule after looking at his personal reasons for transferring, his academic standard, and Florida State’s approval.
  • The Big East announced the conference matchups for the upcoming 2008-09 season, and the Hoyas are set to play Syracuse, Marquette, and Cininnati twice in the 18 game schedule. The dates of the games have not yet been scheduled, but the home and away pairings can be found at guhoyas.com
  • The Kenner League began this past weekend with games at McDonough on Saturday and Sunday. Chris Wright, Nikita Mescheriakov and freshmen Henry Sims, Jason Clark, and Greg Monroe are on The Tombs, DaJuan Summers, Austin Freeman, and Julian Vaughn are playing for Clyde’s, and Jessie Sapp and Omar Wattad are with Myers & Alterman. All games are at McDonough Gymnasium and are free of charge. You can find the entire schedule and team rosters here.
