AI in the Carrier Dome
By JohnnyLast year, when the Denver Nuggets came to D.C., I was at the Verizon Center to interview Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony about the upcoming Big East season. Allen wasn’t in the greatest mood, and being a little timid from my first time in an NBA locker room, I didn’t get a chance to talk with him. I eventually caught up with Carmelo and got a couple of quotes for Tony’s preseason article. (To tell you the truth, I was so hesitant, I actually walked out with Carmelo because I waited until I was the last guy from the media in the locker room and then I had to hurry through my questions so he could leave.)
Last week, the best Big East duo in the NBA headed to another familiar college venue – the Carrier Dome. In a preseason exhibition game, the Nuggets took on the Phoenix Suns on Carmelo’s old home court. The crowd was distinctively pro-Melo and pro-Nuggets and surprisingly, pro-Iverson. According to Anthony: “I joked with Iverson and I told him, ‘You’re the first Georgetown Hoya that’s ever got cheered here.’”
I hope whoever got that quote was a bit more prepared than I was a little less than a year ago.
