All Hoyas Lose

By Hoya Hoops

In the NBA season openers for three former Hoyas, the results were not very good last night. Allen Iverson, Jeff Green, and Roy Hibbert each lost their first game of the new season. Hoya Hoops gives you a quick rundown of how the former Georgetown stars fared in their opening contests.

Roy Hibbert’s debut in the NBA was uneventful, as he was a non-factor in the Pacers’ loss to the Pistons, 100-94. Hibbert played a mere six minutes, and scoring just two points and no rebounds. He did record a blocked shot. As an NBA rookie, Roy will have to earn his playing time, which will be just one of the many challenges he faces as he adjusts to life in the pros.

It’s a new city but the same old result for Jeff Green’s squad. In the first game for the new Oklahoma City team, relocated over the summer from Seattle, the Thunder lost at home to the Bucks 98-87. Jeff Green did not have one of his better nights. He started and played 27 minutes, but was only 2-7 from the field for seven points, and he committed five turnovers. His fellow sophomore teammate didn’t do much better, as Kevin Durant had 12 points on 5-14 shooting to go along with four turnovers.

In the season opener for Denver, the Nuggets were without Carmelo Anthony due to a suspension he is serving for a DUI arrest from over the summer. The team could have used his point production as the Jazz just edged out the Nuggets 98-94 in Utah. Allen Iverson had a team-high 18 points to go with a game-high eight assists.
