Hoyas in first Top 25

  • The first set of polls was released over the weekend, and Georgetown came in #22 in the AP Poll and #18 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll. In both polls, the Big East had 7 teams in the Top 25.
  • The Indiana Pacers won their first game of the season on Saturday, defeating the Boston Celtics 95-79. Roy played 12 minutes and scored 5 points off of 2-3 shooting. Coach Jim O’Brien had this to say of Hibbert: “I thought Roy did some good things. He needs to maintain his focus. His work ethic is great and I’m very, very pleased with how he’s developing.”
  • Jeff Green’s team also earned their first win this weekend, and for them it was the first win with their new name, the Oklahoma City Thunder. They defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 88-85 last night. Jeff had 13 points and three assists, but he missed two critical free throws that would have pushed the lead to five with seven seconds left in the game.
  • Patrick Ewing was upset to find out that the Knicks had cut his son and said that he is looking into opportunities in Europe or the D-League. Meanwhile, the New York Post is reporting that the Knicks may waive Stephon Marbury today as Knicks President Donnie Walsh and Marbury are scheduled to meet today. Marc Berman of the Post speculates that if they waive Marbury, the Knicks may re-sign Patrick Ewing, Jr.
