Open Practice Today
By JohnnyThe Hoya Hoop Club is having their annual open practice today at 4:00pm. I was going to be heading out there, but I’ve been feeling sick this week and won’t be able to make the trip. Anyone who makes it to McDonough today, please let us know how it went in the comments!

I got this in an email from the Hoya Hoop Club. It’s their own recap of what happened.
Introduction: Coach began by thanking everyone for being flexible and coming out on a Friday afternoon, leaving work early. The team is a young group but they are working very hard. At some point, Coach believes that the team is going to be very good. This team reminds him of his first year at Georgetown but with more veteran leadership.
Q: How will change in personnel effect playing style.
A: The change in personnel is not a change in state of mind. Of course, you tweak the playing style to the players you have, but it will still be the same system.
Q: Will the Defense be as good as it was last year?
A: Only time will tell, but they’re going to work very hard.
Q: Do you take a different approach with younger players?
A: Not really, they have to understand that there is a steep learning curve and they need to get up to speed as fast as they can.
Q: How will Greg Monroe be used?
A: He is a very versatile player. Remember that our system doesn’t really think in terms of traditional positions and players have to be able to execute from lots of different areas on the floor.
Q: How do you feel about our ranking?
A: In a lot of ways, preseason rankings are a popularity contest. That said, our league (BIG EAST) is very rough this year, so we have to play the games and the ranking will take care of itself.
Q: Who has stepped up as a team leader?
A: Sapp and Summers as the veteran members of the team, but Chris Wright as well. Everybody is working hard.
Q: Is this your toughest schedule as coach at Georgetown?
A: Yes, by far. The nature of the BIG EAST schedule in particular makes it hard to develop a rhythm so it will be a challenge.
Q: How do you feel about the Scrimmage vs. Exhibition preseason format?
A: The reason we prefer scrimmage is that it allows us to set up scenarios that we want to work on and play those out rather than just go with the flow of the game.
Q: Who is the most improved so far this year?
A: (Coach passed this question off to Chris Wright) “Everybody.”
