Georgetown Beats Maryland
By Hoya Hoops- The Georgetown Hoyas came in third place in the Old Spice Classic in Orlando, Florida. The Hoyas opened the tournament with a win against the Wichita State Shockers on Thanksgiving, but then fell to Tennessee the following day. In the third place match, the Hoyas beat their crosstown rivals Maryland to finish with a 2-1 record for the long weekend.
- Gonzaga defeated Tennessee 83-74 in the finals of the Old Spice Classic. The Bulldogs’ Steven Gray had 19 points off the bench to lead all scorers, and Josh Heytvelt had another good game, getting 15 points, four rebounds, and two blocks.
- Five teams in the AP Top 10 were defeated this week. The highest ranked team to lose was #3 Louisville who was defeated by the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers 68-54. Fifth-ranked Michigan State fell to Maryland in the opening round of the Old Spice Classic. Sixth-ranked Texas lost to #8 Notre Dame in the semifinals of the Maui Invitational, but the Irish were then defeated by #1 North Carolina in the finals. Also, tenth-ranked Purdue was defeated by Oklahoma 87-82 in overtime.
