Connecticut In-Game Thread
By JohnnyHey everybody, Johnny here from…Silver Spring, MD. Okay, so I didn’t make the trip to Hartford, but I’ll still be managing this thread. It’s the first game I’ve missed all season, and I’ll have to settle with watching tonight’s Big Monday game on ESPN2. For those of you watching along, feel free to post your thoughts and comments, and for those listening to Rich, your questions will be answered.
I’ll be checking back once it gets closer to game time, but for now I’ll leave you with this: The last time Georgetown beat Connecticut on the road was in the 1996-97 season. Hopefully, these Hoyas will be able to break that skid and bring home a victory from up north.

i remember that game…i was taping it for my dad, back when we had to use tapes, and i paused it before the last timeout because i was running out of room on the tape, and i forgot to restart the tape. oops. At least the hoyas got a win. Hope we can get another win tonight. lets go hoyas!!!!
December 29th, 2008 at 7:02 pm
Starting Lineups:
For the Huskies, it’s Price, Austrie, Dyson, Adrien, and Thabeet.
For the Hoyas, it’s the old 5 (i.e., no Wattad): Summers, Wright, Monroe, Freeman, and Sapp.
December 29th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
all right hoyas, lets go!
December 29th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
Hoyas lose the tip, and Monroe gets a steal on the first possession.
December 29th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
Let’s go Hoyas! A win here would be a great post-Christmas gift.
December 29th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
nice backdoor
December 29th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
It takes around two minutes, but the Hoyas finally break the 0-0 deadlock with a backdoor to Freeman. 2-0 Hoyas, timeout UCONN
December 29th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Nice first hoop. I think passing it around will help.
December 29th, 2008 at 7:07 pm
nice freeman
December 29th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
nice recognition by monroe
December 29th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
Monroe caught an alley-oop pass and landed, Summers hits a three.
December 29th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
Nice steal and layup for Monroe, but he misses the and-one.
December 29th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
I love Summers
December 29th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
come on hoyas, no let up keep up the killer defense!!!!
December 29th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
There is Greg Monroe’s first three-pointer of the season. 16-1 for the Hoyas, and Calhoun uses his second timeout, when the next whistle will be the 16:00.
December 29th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
come hoyas get out on him
December 29th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
Monroe took it to Thabeet that time. Nice to see the little hook go down.
December 29th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
Great play by Greg so far
December 29th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
12:32 left in the first half, and it’s the official timeout. Hoyas leading 20-9.
December 29th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
freeman need to get that loose ball
December 29th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
nice take
December 29th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
Let’s keep up this intensity Hoyas!
December 29th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
Out of the timeout, Vaughn’s in instead of Monroe.
December 29th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
Also, Clark for Sapp.
December 29th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
gotta get some rebounds now hoyas, they aer closing in
December 29th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
Vaughn gets a putback – one for both teams – and he heads back to the bench for Greg.
December 29th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
take care of the ball hoyas
December 29th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
7:47 left in the first half, the Hoyas with a six point lead, 26-20. UCONN ball after the timeout.
December 29th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
We need to box out on these shots
December 29th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
nice recovery there
December 29th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
After a frantic back and forth, Summers gets a layup and was fouled.
December 29th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
After a sloppy few minutes and too many second chance points for the Huskies, Coach Thompson calls a timeout, Hoyas leading 28-24.
December 29th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
Nice D that set
December 29th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
good take there by monroe, gotta finish tho
December 29th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
horrible horrible horrible horrible call
December 29th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
Monroe picks up his second foul on a questionable call with 2:59 left in the half.
December 29th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
they are giving us some breaks on the free throws, lets take advantage
December 29th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
oh wow, a foul on connecticut? what a shock!!
December 29th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
With 30 seconds left in the half, Connecticut picks up their third foul, and the crowd lets them hear it.
December 29th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
only a two but we’ll take it!!!
December 29th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
NBA shot from Chris Wright as he gets a bump and hits a fadeaway 18 footer as the halftime buzzer sounds. Hoyas head to the half leading 36-27.
December 29th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
Well, I’ll take UConn scoring 27 points in a half with 0 of them from Thabeet any old day.
December 29th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
big big shot there
December 29th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
To start the second half? Monroe hits another three.
December 29th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
And then, Greg picks up his third.
December 29th, 2008 at 8:05 pm
come on hoyas, cant fall asleep
December 29th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
We need to hit some free throws
December 29th, 2008 at 8:07 pm

December 29th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
gotta stay focused, take caer of the ball
December 29th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Turnover for the Hoyas gives the ball to the Huskies only trailing by five. Coach Thompson calls a timeout with over 16:00 to go in the game.
December 29th, 2008 at 8:12 pm
another timeout, lets make a play to score
December 29th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
they are gonna be shooting free throws every possession
December 29th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
Looks like Greg’s finally got his contact back in.
December 29th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
Another nice post move by Monroe against Thabeet.
December 29th, 2008 at 8:22 pm

December 29th, 2008 at 8:24 pm

December 29th, 2008 at 8:25 pm

December 29th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
49-45, 11:19 left in the second half. Austin Freeman to shoot two on the other end of the timeout.
December 29th, 2008 at 8:29 pm
Thankfully they are calling some fouls on them this half
December 29th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
big shot jessie
December 29th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
Jessie hits his first three of the game with a guy all over him.
December 29th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
DEFENSE
December 29th, 2008 at 8:39 pm
come on now hoyas, gotta make the fts
December 29th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
Two big free throws from big Greg, and Georgetown is up 60-47 with a little over 7 minutes left.
December 29th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
Clark is so money from the line. His free-throw shooting is Jansen-esque. Would love if the hoyas could steal one here, but I’m still unconvinced that the Hoyas are even close to as deep as UConn. We’re gonna need good minutes from Wattad, plus some quick maturation from Clark and Sims if we’re gonna have a chance in the Big East. Play of the game so far: Wright’s disgusting baseline drive from the left wing on the left side of the screen. Almost puked.
December 29th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
need the fts dajuan
December 29th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
UCONN fans are giving a sarcastic cheer that a call went against the Hoyas. But the fouls are even in this half, and there was still a huge discrepancy in the first half, causing the offense-defense subbing involving Monroe.
December 29th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
gotta be smarter georgetown
December 29th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
I really dislike UConn and their supporters.
December 29th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
I gotta be honest…I wouldn’t mind having Adrien on my side in a dark alley.
December 29th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
COME ON HOYAS LETS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
December 29th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
what was bilas’ all-uconn team?
chris smith
rip
allen
d marshall
okefor
6=gordon
i can’t remember if they had allen on the list…
December 29th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
A backdoor cut basket for Wright on an assist from Monroe gives the Hoyas a 15 point lead. Calhoun calls a timeout with 5:22 left in the game.
December 29th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Calhoun is flustered. Looking like he did against George Mason in the regionals.
December 29th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
pour it on no let up no let up
December 29th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Let’s keep it up Hoyas for 4 and a half minutes
December 29th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
You got the 6 from Bilas right Luke.
December 29th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
SEND IT IN!!!!!!!!
December 29th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
summers………sick!!!!!!!!!!!!
December 29th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
gotta stay focused now hoyas….3 and a half left minutes left no let up
December 29th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
After a putback dunk by Summers pushes it to 17, two quick baskets cut the lead back to 13. Hoyas have the ball and JTIII uses a timeout.
December 29th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
Too many commercials here. Maybe it was a foul and not a timeout. Nope, they missed a bit of the action.
December 29th, 2008 at 8:57 pm
it comes down to free throws now hoyas….must must must convert from the line.
December 29th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
i agree with bilas, then. although it is hard to respect marshall after the free throws against florida. a career killer. what about el-amin? or voskhul?
and the greatest of these is voskhul?
December 29th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
120 left. calling it. hoyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaassssssssss!!!!!!!!
December 29th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
twoooooooooooooooooo minutes!
December 29th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
wow huge performance hoyas gotta have no let up on saturday gotta take care of business this weekend
December 29th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
What a game!!!! Hoya with poise, toughness and class
December 29th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
Like I said earlier, this is the first time that a Georgetown team has won at Connecticut since February 3, 1997. And what a big win it was. Against the #2 team in the nation, the Hoyas dominated the game without as much Monroe as they would have liked, without many three pointers, and with a lot of people watching on ESPN2.
Final score: 74-63 Georgetown.
December 29th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
What a great start to the Big East season, Hoyas!
