Hoyas take Season Opener
By Hoya Hoops- The Big East conference schedule got underway yesterday, and Georgetown beat Connecticut 74-63 giving the Huskies their first loss of the season. It was also the first Big Monday game, and over the next weeks there will be a lot more Big East action on ESPN on Monday nights.
- The new rankings were released yesterday, and once again the Big East had seven teams in the AP Top 25 and eight teams in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll. Georgetown moved up one spot in both polls to be #11 in the AP and #8 in the Coaches’ Poll.
- West Virginia’s Alex Ruoff took home the Big East Player of the Week award and Rutgers freshman Mike Rosario earned Rookie of the Week. Ruoff scored 38 against Radford last week and Rosario put up 26 in the losing effort against North Carolina.
- In non-league play, Villanova beat Temple 65-42 and Cincinnati lost to Memphis 60-45 yesterday. Tonight, Big East action will continue as Seton Hall takes on Syracuse at 7:00.
