Bouncing Back

By Hoya Hoops

In our last Pregame Predictions, we talked about bouncing back from a poor performance, and we asked you how many points Jessie Sapp would score. He did not have one of his better games, only scoring six points, and not recording an assist. That means that our guess of 12 points was the closest. But not that close.

Since the team had another poor performance and everyone dropped the ball, we decided to run it back.

How many points will Jessie Sapp score, and how many assists will he dish out?

We will go with our same guess as last time. We think Jessie will score 12 points and have 2 assists. Here is your chance to redeem yourself. Post your answers in the comments.

Mount St. Mary’s Postgame Press Conference

Here’s the audio from the press conference following the Mount St. Mary’s game.

Mike’s Mount St. Mary’s Postgame Thoughts

By Mike

Teams

Georgetown:
The Hoyas showed a bit of a letdown after their hard-fought emotional win over Memphis last week. With only one game left before the start of the Big East season, the team had a poor performance on both ends of the court, and it seemed as if the effort was not there. That being said, they did grind out a win. Let’s hope the lack of intensity and focus was an anomaly and that when the Hoyas return to the court on Tuesday, they have righted that ship.

Top 10 Stumbles

By Hoya Hoops
  • The Georgetown Hoyas defeated Mount St. Mary’s at Verizon Center on Saturday, extending their home unbeaten streak to 28. The Hoyas face Florida International tomorrow night at 7:30 in Chinatown.
  • Four teams from the Top 10 in both polls lost on Saturday. #5 Texas lost at home to #19 Michigan State 67-63, and #9 Louisville lost to the Minnesota Golden Gophers 70-64. In two Top 10 matchups, #7 Xavier fell to #6 Duke, 82-64, and #8 Gonzaga lost to #2 Connecticut in overtime, 88-83.
  • Allen Iverson had his best game as a Piston as he scored a season high 38 points in their 120-114 loss to the Jazz in double overtime.
  • Similarly, Roy Hibbert scored a career high 16 points in his double overtime loss to the Clippers. Big Roy started the game, played 23 minutes, shot 8-10 from the field, pulled down 8 rebounds, and had 5 blocked shots. And with all of that action on the court, he only picked up two personal fouls, which is a good sign for the foul-prone rookie.

Mount St. Mary’s Recap

By Hoya Hoops

The Georgetown Hoyas defeated Mount St. Mary’s by a final score of 69-58. It was a sluggish performance for the Hoyas who never seemed to get into a rhythm, either offensively or defensively. The game was a low scoring contest, as the teams were a combined 21-60 from field in the first half. Georgetown went into the locker room with a 33-24 halftime lead.

Mount St. Mary’s In-Game Thread

By Johnny

Hey everybody, Johnny here from the Verizon Center. Not much of a crowd here, and I’m not expecting it get that much fuller by tipoff time. The students are all home for Christmas break, and the seats behind me are being filled by random groups of people.

Those of you at home, this game will be on MASN in the DC Area, so you will be able to catch the action unlike the Florida International game on Tuesday. No matter where you are, if you’ve got internet access, keep it here for updates and in-game commentary.

Here are your starting lineups:
For the Hoyas, it’s the same five – Summers, Wright, Monroe, Freeman, and Sapp.
For the Mount, it’s going to be Cajou, Goode, Beidler, Atupem, and Mitchell.

The refs this afternoon are going to be Clarence Armstrong, Chris Beaver, and Ray Perone.

Keep your thoughts in the comments, and I’ll do the same.

Bouncing Back

By Hoya Hoops

Before the Memphis game, we asked everyone to guess how well the Hoyas would play do on defense by predicting the Tigers’ final score and shooting percentage. Even though we had two guesses that were only off by two points, Let’s Go Hoyas wins because his percentage was right on the money. Memphis scored 70 points, shooting 27 of 78 from the field, or 34.6%, and Let’s Go Hoyas predicted 72 points and 35%. Nice work.

Now onto this weekend’s game between the Hoyas and Mount St. Mary’s. Mike talked about teams having to bounce back after ugly wins, and that Memphis game was definitely ugly for senior Jessie Sapp. He played less minutes than usual do to foul trouble, and he went 1 for 6 for the field until his last second toss went in. We all know that Jessie is a leader for this team and that he is a better player than he showed last Saturday, so this game’s question is:

How many points will Jessie Sapp score, and how many assists will he dish out?

We’re gonna go ahead and guess Jessie will score 12 points and have 2 assists. What do you think?
