Marquette In-Game Thread

By Johnny

Hey everybody. We’re about half an hour away from tipoff between the Georgetown Hoyas and the Marquette Golden Eagles. Right now these are two teams headed in opposite directions as the Hoyas have lost their last four, including three straight conference losses. Marquette, on the the other hand, have won ten straight and are yet to drop a game in the Big East. Hopefully Georgetown can reverse both ofa these trends with a big victory on the road today.

I’ll be checking in with updates as soon as I get them. Post your thoughts in the comments.

The Panic Button

By Tony

You know how everybody always says, “It’s not time to hit the panic button yet”? Well, guess what. Someone on the Hoyas needs to hit the panic button right now! Stay the course, keep running the offense, fight through it, will all lead to more losses and a real possibility of an N.I.T. bid. With as much progress as the program has made in the last three seasons, those letters should make every Hoya fan shudder.

Scoring

By Hoya Hoops

Last time, we asked you for the three-point percentage that the Hoyas would shoot against the Bearcats. Georgetown again could not find its range from downtown, going only 29.4% from beyond the arc in the loss to Cincinnati. That means DJ was closest with his guess of 30%.

The Hoyas have lost three straight conference games as they head to Marquette. A problem in each of those games was scoring, as the team failed to score more than 60 points in each of those contests. And now with Georgetown’s leading scorer DaJuan Summers questionable for the matchup in Milwaukee, the team will in all likelyhood have to get its points from somewhere else.

Who will lead the team in scoring, and with how many points?

The team as a whole has been slumping, but Chris Wright seems to have that ability to get to the basket even when the outside shots are not falling. We’ll say he will have 18 points this Saturday. Give us your thoughts in the comments.

Johnny’s Cincinnati Postgame Thoughts

Teams

Georgetown:
The Hoyas are in big trouble right now. No question about it. Four straight losses, three straight conference losses, undefeated Marquette on the road up next. They have not been executing down the stretch lately, which had been a characteristic of all Thompson coached teams dating back to his days at Princeton.

Cincinnati:
Cincinnati, on the other hand, could execute down the stretch. And unlike Seton Hall, who left the door open for Georgetown in crunch time, the Bearcats were ready to crush Georgetown’s hopes in the waning minutes with bigtime shots and made free throws.

Cincinnati Recap

By Hoya Hoops

The Georgetown Hoyas lost their fourth straight game, falling on the road to Cincinnati 65-57. It was a similar formula for defeat for the Hoyas who again faded down the stretch. The Bearcats closed the game on an 11-2 run to improve to .500 in conference play and dealt another blow to the Hoyas, who have now dropped six of their last eight games.

Cincinnati In-Game Thread

By Mike

Hello, everyone, Mike here doing the in-game thread for you tonight. We are about 20 minutes or so before tip-off between the Cincinnati Bearcats and the Georgetown Hoyas. This is a must win for the Hoyas if they want to stay in the hunt for that double bye given to the top four teams in the conference.

The last time these two teams met, there was no contest, with the Hoyas winning that one by 20, 73-53. Georgetown would love a repeat performance of that game to avoid dropping their third straight conference game.

I’ll be here all game with thoughts, comments, and info. I’ll try to be a little more attentive than usual since this game is only available on espn360.com, so perhaps some of you only have the radio to follow the action. If you have any comments, be sure to post them below.
