Cincinnati In-Game Thread
By MikeHello, everyone, Mike here doing the in-game thread for you tonight. We are about 20 minutes or so before tip-off between the Cincinnati Bearcats and the Georgetown Hoyas. This is a must win for the Hoyas if they want to stay in the hunt for that double bye given to the top four teams in the conference.
The last time these two teams met, there was no contest, with the Hoyas winning that one by 20, 73-53. Georgetown would love a repeat performance of that game to avoid dropping their third straight conference game.
I’ll be here all game with thoughts, comments, and info. I’ll try to be a little more attentive than usual since this game is only available on espn360.com, so perhaps some of you only have the radio to follow the action. If you have any comments, be sure to post them below.

Starting 5’s:
Georgetown: Sapp, Wright, Freeman, Summers, Monroe
Cincinnati: Vaughn, Davis, Bishop, Williams, Toyloy
January 28th, 2009 at 7:43 pm
Sorry for the posting delays, internet problems again. Two baskets by Summers and a layup by Freeman, but the Hoyas down 3, 9-6 at the 16 minute timeout.
January 28th, 2009 at 7:46 pm
A jumper from Chris Wright on an assist from Sapp brings the Hoyas even, 11-11.
January 28th, 2009 at 7:50 pm
Timeout on the floor, Hoyas down 14-13, Summers going to the line with a chance for a three point play when we return.
January 28th, 2009 at 7:53 pm
Free throw is good, game tied at 14, Omar Wattad enters the game.
January 28th, 2009 at 7:54 pm
Hey everybody, sorry for my delay. Johnny here just checking in. From where I am on ESPN360, Cincy just called a timeout as the Hoyas pulled ahead 18-14.
January 28th, 2009 at 7:54 pm
A Monroe putback gives the Hoyas their first lead of the game.
January 28th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
Jason Clark seems to be having a bit of trouble handling the ball, as has been the case for the past few games.
January 28th, 2009 at 7:59 pm
7:25 to go in the first, Hoyas ahead by 3, 20-17. Official timeout.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:02 pm
Monroe airballs a three, Bearcats ball, down one.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:04 pm
Summers picks up his first foul.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:06 pm
Summers is going up for an alley-oop, and he gets hammered. I don’t understand how there’s no call there.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:07 pm
Hoyas again struggling from the floor, shooting only 35% with about 4 minutes to play left in the first half.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:08 pm
Omar Wattad hits a three which cuts the Bearcat’s lead to two.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:10 pm
Timeout on the floor. 3:25 left in the first half, the Hoyas down two.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:17 pm
Hoyas down four, 27-23, Coach Thompson uses his free 30 second time out with 41 seconds left in the half.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:18 pm
Great play right there. Looked like the Georgetown offense. A lot of moving and passing the ball around, Monroe got the ball, made a move, passed out of the triple team to a wide open Nikita for three.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
Georgetown goes into the break down one, 27-26, with the same halftime score as the Seton Hall game. Let’s hope this one ends up differently for the Hoyas.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:25 pm
I have a good feeling about the second half…the starters are going to come out hot…
January 28th, 2009 at 8:36 pm
Big dunk by Monroe on the fast break, puts it to 33-32 Cincy.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:37 pm
Nikita starts the second half in place of Summers. I hope Let’s Go Hoyas feelings were about the other 4 starters.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
Three Hoya fouls on this one possession, and eventually the Hoyas get the ball
January 28th, 2009 at 8:40 pm
That Austin Freeman three has tied the game at 35, and Cincinnati will use a 30 second timeout. As the first one of the second half, it gets stretched to a full.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:41 pm
Did something happen to Summers in the first half?
January 28th, 2009 at 8:42 pm
I’m not sure, they were showing him limping a bit on ESPN360, but I thought he played more in the 1st after that play.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
A foul on Wright brings us to the 16 minute timeout, score still knotted at 35.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:46 pm
Nice dish by Monroe to Sims for two, Hoyas up 39-35.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
Hey Mike, go down and tell JTIII to put in Summers. Tell him that I need Summers to hit at least 3 three pointers for me.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
Cincinnati’s Vaughn gets his third foul but Greg missed both, and Mitchell hits a three. Big turnaround.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:50 pm
LOL…If the Hoyas win today, I don’t care if Summers plays another second.
January 28th, 2009 at 8:57 pm
Hoyas are still struggling with inbounding and breaking the press, problems that have plagued them for the past few years
January 28th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
Freeman to the line to shoot two with a chance to tie the game at 45.
January 28th, 2009 at 9:00 pm
Freeman’s third personal foul means the Hoyas have six in the half. The Bearcats will be in the bonus the rest of the way.
January 28th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
Monroe has an unusual amount of trouble scoring those reverse layups from the baseline. At least Wright can score in transition.
January 28th, 2009 at 9:04 pm
Wright layup tied the game at 47 and Coach Thompson uses a 30 second timeout. A little over eight minutes to play in the game.
January 28th, 2009 at 9:06 pm
Chris Wright doing the best he can to keep the Hoyas in the game, that floater cuts the deficit to one.
January 28th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
Six minutes left the game, Georgetown trails by three, Cincinnati’s Vaughn will be shooting two free throws after the timeout.
January 28th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
Is Sapp in?
January 28th, 2009 at 9:11 pm
That’s team foul #6 on Cincinnati.
January 28th, 2009 at 9:11 pm
No Sapp: Freeman, Clark, Wright, Monroe, and Nikita.
January 28th, 2009 at 9:13 pm
Clark hits a clutch three to put the Hoyas back on top by one with under five minutes to play.
January 28th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
Nikita is doing a great job getting boards today. He’s had to play extra minutes due to Summers’ ankle, but he’s filling in pretty well given the circumstances.
January 28th, 2009 at 9:15 pm
2:13 remaining, the Bearcats up two, with a chance to double their lead from the free throw line.
January 28th, 2009 at 9:19 pm
Hoyas in big trouble now, down five with under 90 seconds to go.
January 28th, 2009 at 9:19 pm
Monroe takes a big risk on defense, and Cincinnati capitalizes. Thankfully for Georgetown, Wright scored a quick basket to bring it back to three.
January 28th, 2009 at 9:21 pm
Quick foul on Greg there. I didn’t see much there. Especially how badly he got fouled the last time he had the ball.
January 28th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
Hoyas down four with the ball, 40 seconds left, call timeout to set up a play.
January 28th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
Austin Freeman misses a three, now Georgetown has to foul down four with under 30 seconds to play.
January 28th, 2009 at 9:25 pm
A missed three by Clark, and this game is over.
January 28th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
That’s gonna do it. Another sub-par performance from the Hoyas ends in defeat, as Georgetown falls 65-57. Four straight losses have the Hoyas in their worst slump since Coach Thompson’s first year, and things don’t get any easier. They go to undefeated Marquette next.
