Marquette In-Game Thread
By JohnnyHey everybody. We’re about half an hour away from tipoff between the Georgetown Hoyas and the Marquette Golden Eagles. Right now these are two teams headed in opposite directions as the Hoyas have lost their last four, including three straight conference losses. Marquette, on the the other hand, have won ten straight and are yet to drop a game in the Big East. Hopefully Georgetown can reverse both ofa these trends with a big victory on the road today.
I’ll be checking in with updates as soon as I get them. Post your thoughts in the comments.

January 31st, 2009 at 2:05 pm
I’m in the same boat DJ….hoping that the game doesn’t go into overtime
January 31st, 2009 at 2:06 pm
good to see summers in there and scoring
January 31st, 2009 at 2:06 pm
Same starters for the Hoyas (including Summers) and after the Hoyas lose the tip, both teams trade misses, Marquette ball.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:07 pm
Summers hits a three to start the scoring, but Haywood gets a bucket, 3-2.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:07 pm
DaJuan Summers hits a three pointer, and on the next possession gets 5 points off a basket, missed free throw then after the offensive rebound hitting the three.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:10 pm
nice we are making some threes today, lets get stops.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:12 pm
MASN is a disgrace…”Official Netwrok of the Hoyas?”, yeah, but we’ll join their games in progress. Unacceptable.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:13 pm
11-5 Hoyas lead at the 16 minute timeout of the first half.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:14 pm
Nikita and Jason Clark enter the game for Freeman and Sapp.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:16 pm
can this stupid louisville game end???
January 31st, 2009 at 2:17 pm
dajuan is playing like a beast today it sounds like.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:17 pm
Nikita!!!
January 31st, 2009 at 2:18 pm
Finally, the game on MASN.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:18 pm
Hoyas are hitting from outside pretty well so far. Summers, Freeman, and Nikita have all hit from downtown.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:19 pm
I was getting a little confused there listening to Rich….considering he said that DePaul won the tip.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:20 pm
Chvotkin also said, Hoyas lead 21-11, 3ptr for McNeal cuts the lead to 21-12. Ah, the old 1 pt 3ptr
January 31st, 2009 at 2:20 pm
Hoyas turn the ball over which leads to the 12 minute timeout. Hoyas up 21-14 with 1:53 left in the first half.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:20 pm
It’s nice to have a lead, I know it won’t last forever but at least we have a little margin for error.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:21 pm
Must be 11:53 right Mike?
January 31st, 2009 at 2:24 pm
nice move from sapp there
January 31st, 2009 at 2:24 pm
Nice Jessie!
January 31st, 2009 at 2:25 pm
Yeah, my bad, Zo. Now 10:06 left, Hoyas still up seven, 23-16.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:26 pm
Good stop… now let’s get a hoop.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:27 pm
Summers falls hard coming down with a rebound and he’s limping as he gets up.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:27 pm
Why does DaJuan always get so beat up?
January 31st, 2009 at 2:28 pm
Looks like he’s gonna fight it off as he stays in there. He might have bruise tomorrow.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:30 pm
Hoyas have seven team fouls, and it’ll be one and one for Marquette after the break. Hoyas up 25-21 with 7:59 to go in the first.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:30 pm
this is incredible…7 fouls on us already??? that was garbage, why bail him out wiht a call?
January 31st, 2009 at 2:31 pm
Hopefully the refs will start evening out the foul calls since it’s awfully one-sided so far.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:34 pm
monroe has really been struggling these past few games.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:35 pm
Three for Marquette and the Gold Eagles take the lead 28-27.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:35 pm
Big shot Austin.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:35 pm
bs call there, just trying to even the fouls
January 31st, 2009 at 2:36 pm
Thanks for finally calling a foul on them.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:39 pm
his feet arent even moving. horrendous
January 31st, 2009 at 2:39 pm
He was trapped…how could he have moved?
January 31st, 2009 at 2:42 pm
We can’t leave these guys open outside the arc.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:43 pm
Game’s tied 38-38 with 2:31 to go in the half. Monroe will be taking two free throws after the official timeout.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:46 pm
alright sims, need some good minutes today
January 31st, 2009 at 2:49 pm
Summers showed some post moves there and he got a baby hook to go down.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:49 pm
these refs are totally horrrrrrrible.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:53 pm
McNeal misses at the end of the half, so it’s 42-42 at the break. The Hoyas look much improved on offense, scoring inside and out, passing the ball and waiting for the good shot. It’s the defense that still isn’t up to Georgetown levels. We’ll have to see what happens in the second half, but the team looks much improved over the past two losses. Marquette is a contender.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:53 pm
So they’re shooting 59% for the half, they’ve got to cool off in the vespers…of course we’ll be lucky to keep shooting 68%.
January 31st, 2009 at 2:53 pm
Marquette can score though, this isn’t like giving up 42 points in a half to Cincy or the hall
January 31st, 2009 at 3:09 pm
lets go hoyas!!!
January 31st, 2009 at 3:09 pm
Freeman starts the scoring in the second half. Georgetown up 44-42
January 31st, 2009 at 3:11 pm
just hold on to the ball
January 31st, 2009 at 3:12 pm
man, gotta come up with these loose balls. and more fts for them. lets go guys
January 31st, 2009 at 3:16 pm
how do you call that not shooting? its all one motion
January 31st, 2009 at 3:18 pm
I can’t believe it. Summers got a baseline dunk without ending up on the floor! And it went in!
January 31st, 2009 at 3:20 pm
In honor of cancer awareness week the coaches wear basketball shoes with their suits, and the refs wear blindfolds.
January 31st, 2009 at 3:21 pm
Wright needs to get a clue, driving 1 on 3 against this team? Come on dude, wait for your teammates!
January 31st, 2009 at 3:24 pm
Incredible fast break led by Nikita and Jason Clark.
January 31st, 2009 at 3:25 pm
no foul there ever and then they call one on clark??? ridiculous
January 31st, 2009 at 3:27 pm
we are in trouble again. we are just getting freaked out
January 31st, 2009 at 3:27 pm
Little run for Marquette gives them a seven point lead, 59-52 and Coach Thompson needs a timeout.
January 31st, 2009 at 3:29 pm
no one wanted to shoot the ball that time.
January 31st, 2009 at 3:31 pm
there is no foul there at all…its very sad.
January 31st, 2009 at 3:36 pm
come on now greg, need the fts
January 31st, 2009 at 3:36 pm
Come on, Greg. Let’s get these free throws.
January 31st, 2009 at 3:37 pm
Big show there Chris.
January 31st, 2009 at 3:38 pm
We need to start getting some stops.
January 31st, 2009 at 3:39 pm
wow i cant even watch anymore
January 31st, 2009 at 3:39 pm
Thanks for that foul call now.
January 31st, 2009 at 3:40 pm
these refs can go to hell…give me a break, they then call this stupid bump that has no impact as if it makes up for anything
January 31st, 2009 at 3:40 pm
Huge sequence there. Nikita gets called for an offensive foul, so no points for Greg. Then Matthews hits a three to give Marquette a 13 point lead instead of it being just 8.
January 31st, 2009 at 3:41 pm
Seriously, I mean we are finally playing a decent game and we get taken out of it by lopsided calls.
January 31st, 2009 at 3:43 pm
Come on Chris. We need these to stay in it.
January 31st, 2009 at 3:43 pm
come on hoyas, lets make these fts, get a few stops and see what happens…dont quit
January 31st, 2009 at 3:44 pm
Come on Hoyas….Defense!
January 31st, 2009 at 3:45 pm
What a crappy late call.
January 31st, 2009 at 3:49 pm
Good rebound there, Clark.
January 31st, 2009 at 3:51 pm
looks like we arent gonna be able to pull this one out.
January 31st, 2009 at 3:51 pm
Nikita has fouled out, and with under five minutes to go, the Hoyas are down by 14. Not looking good for Georgetown right now.
January 31st, 2009 at 4:02 pm
These calls are unacceptable. That ball was out of bounds on them, and then they call a touch foul.
January 31st, 2009 at 4:03 pm
its good to make these shots, but why not take them when we couldnt score? at least try to shoot it.
January 31st, 2009 at 4:08 pm
The Hoyas need to work on keeping control of the ball. They were right in this game until a stretch in the second half when they had turnovers and quick empty possessions. I wouldn’t be surprised if Marquette had 10-15 more possessions than the Hoyas.
January 31st, 2009 at 4:09 pm
That’s the final 94-82. Not good for Georgetown, going 0-3 on their road trip.
