Earlier this week, we asked you who would be the leading scorer against West Virginia. No one scored as many as they should have, but Wright’s 13 points led the team, meaning Bobby in Tennessee is right again for the second straight game.
The Hoyas have little time to recoup as they begin a long road stretch on Sunday against Seton Hall. Georgetown has lost the past two road games, and both times, they struggled from the stripe, shooting 59% against Notre Dame, and 56% against Duke. Here’s this game’s question:
How will the Hoyas shoot from the free throw line, and how many attempts will they have?
We think that this team has done pretty well at getting to the line and they’ll have a good afternoon on Sunday, so we’re going to go with 82% with 28 attempts. What do you think?

Georgetown:
The Hoyas came out flat, showed little life in the middle, and ended worse. By far the worst performance of the season for Georgetown couldn’t have come at a worse time. Back-to-back losses just before a three game road trip with conference implications getting bigger and bigger. Georgetown struggled in every category from shooting to rebounding to keeping possession. Hopefully the Hoyas can use that short memory you have to develop in the Big East and forget about this game in a hurry.

The Hoyas lost their second home game of the season and fell to 3-3 in conference play, losing to West Virginia 75-58. Georgetown looked lethargic for extended stretches and never got into a rhythm offensively. They went into the break down five.

We’re less than an hour away from tipoff between the Georgetown Hoyas and the West Virginia Mountaineers, back in Big East action. Johnny here from Verizon Center, and the crowd is juuust starting to show up. Right now, it’s me, the first round of students, and about 12 other fans in their seats.
The loss against Duke is still on a lot of Hoya fans’ minds, but there’s a game at hand, and Big East play is much more important than any non-conference game at this point. The Hoyas, 3-2 in the league, are in the middle of the pack right now, and another home win against a top-tier opponent is crucial to keep this team on the right side of the table.
After today, the Hoyas head on the road for three away games in one seven-day span. Heading into that road trip, I’m sure Georgetown wants a big victory at home to keep negative thoughts at bay. We’ll have to see how this one goes, as the Hoyas have not been playing their best ball consistently.
As usual, I’ll fill you in with whatever I see here courtside and we welcome any and all comments below.

A few seasons ago when the Big East expanded to 16 teams, I thought that the conference should change its name from the Big East to the Biggest. The Big East has been one of the best conferences since their inaugural season in 1979-80, and this year the conference is the best in the history of college basketball. It’s not the best because of the number of at-large NCAA tournament bids, but because no conference has ever had so many tough teams. Some would argue that the only reason the Big East has so many good teams is because they have so many teams, but there is no other conference in the country that produce teams as strong from the bottom half of their league. If you take the best two teams from each conference, they’re all about even. If you take the best two teams from each conference starting with the bottom half, the Big East teams are the best, by a mile.
The only reason that I’m addressing the expanded Big East is because of the Hoyas’ remaining home schedule. So far the Hoyas have played three of their nine conference home games. Six conference home games remain and zero are against original Big East teams.

We asked all of you to predict what Duke’s field goal percentage would be in last Saturday’s game. The Blue Devils shot 48.3% in route to their 76-67 win over Georgetown, meaning that Bobby in Tennessee was closest with his guess of 45%. Congratulations on your first win, Bobby!
The Hoyas played West Virginia twice last year. Everyone remembers Patrick Ewing Jr.’s block from the first match-up, but not many remember Jessie Sapp’s clutch three pointer with six seconds left that put the Hoyas up one in the first place. The two teams met again in the Big East Tournament, and it was Roy Hibbert who led Georgetown to victory, pouring in 25 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. We wonder which Hoya will step up their game for this year’s contest against the Mountaineeers.
Who will lead the Hoyas in scoring, and with how many points?
Our guess is that Greg Monroe will bounce back after the Duke game and score 17 points. Tell us your guesses in the comments, as Bobby tries to make it two in a row.

I have not spoken with my friend and colleague Rich Chvotkin since the Duke game, but he and I have known each other for many years now, and I imagine his analysis of the Duke game would be something like, “We got hosed.” If he had said that, he’d have been right. The Hoyas were assaulted by the refs. But I imagine that the way the game was officiated was not a surprise to Coach Thompson or the players. Being surprised that Duke draws four offensive fouls in the first half is like being surprised that a Hugh Grant movie ends up with him getting the girl. You had to see it coming. One thing I didn’t see coming: a foul being called on Greg Monroe while he was on the bench. Nice one, John Cahill. It just goes to show you that no matter how bad you think an official is, he can still get worse. I’m sure Mr. Cahill was happy to have played such a prominent role in front of the national TV audience.
