Villanova Recap

By Hoya Hoops

There are two teams in the country that have three wins against the current Top 10. One of those teams is the #2 ranked University of Connecticut. The other team is the Georgetown Hoyas. Georgetown defeated the #10 ranked Villanova Wildcats in Philadelphia 56-54. Chris Wright scored 13 points including two free throws in the final seconds to help secure the win. DaJuan Summers led all scorers with 16 points and Nikita Mescheriakov added a career high 11 points.

Villanova In-Game Thread

By Johnny

Hey everyone, Johnny here at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia getting set for the Big East matchup between Villanova and Georgetown. It’s only 15 minutes away from tipoff, but this place is pretty empty. The Villanova students are on spring break, and it shows. In the parking lot, I saw a bunch of fans in Blue and Gray, so maybe if the Hoyas start showing something on the court, this place can turn pro-Georgetown.

I’ll be back in a few with the starting lineups and the tipoff. Feel free to keep your thoughts coming in the comments.

Q & A with Wildcat Blogger

By Johnny

In this year’s first Inside Scoop, we’re taking a look at Villanova from the eyes of a Wildcat blogger, Chris from I Bleed Blue and White. He sent me a bunch of questions in preparation for tomorrow’s game, and you can read my responses over at his site. Then I followed up by asking him some questions of my own.

Final Verdict

By Tony

Do you remember the scene at the beginning of Superman? I’m talking about the one with Christopher Reeve from the 1970s. General Zod and his crew are on trial in the high court of hula hoops or whatever. When it’s time for the verdict, the huge faces of the judges materialize in the sky and announce their verdict. In this case, they all say “Guilty”. I feel like this might be what Selection Sunday is like behind closed doors. Jack the Bulldog is standing inside the spinning hoops display (for our intents and purposes less pretend that they are huge basketball rims). Jack is looking nervously around from inside the hoops and sees large faces appear. They say “In”, “Out”, “In”, “Out”. If you get more “Out”s, it’s NIT time.

Summers Scoring

By Hoya Hoops

The Hoyas took on the best of the Big East over the last weekend, facing off against Marquette and Louisville. Unfortunately, the Hoyas walked away winless, dropping both as their NCAA Tournament hopes fade quickly. No one predicted that Georgetown would go 0-2, so no winner this week.

Against Louisville, DaJuan Summers had one of his worst performances as a Hoya. He ended with only four points on 1-8 shooting. DaJuan has carried the team at times this year, and we anticipate a swift recovery as the team travels to Philadelphia to take on Villanova.

How many points and rebounds will DaJuan Summers have?

We are sure DaJuan will bounce back. He will lead the team with 19 points and grab seven rebounds. Think we are wrong? Put your predictions below.

Dominic James Out for Season

By Hoya Hoops

Marquette senior Dominic James had to leave the game early last night in Marquette’s loss to Connecticut due to an injury to his left foot. It was later confirmed that he had broken the fifth metatarsal bone, meaning his season and career at Marquette are over.

They have any Survivor songs on there?

By Johnny

Those of you who made out to the Verizon Center on Monday night might remember seeing a message from Roy Hibbert on the big Diamond Vision screen before the 2nd half. (Technically, he was trying to deliver the message before tipoff but the audio didn’t work). Basically Roy introduced himself to the new fans and tried to get the crowd excited for the huge game.

Well apparently, that wasn’t the first time Big Roy has been in front of the camera, as the Indiana Pacers have decided to give Hibbert his very own section of Pacers.com for a video blog called “Roy’s Life.”

In Episode 1, you can see the Big Fella playing Guitar Hero, singing along with “Livin’ on a Prayer” and dancing to “Beat It”.

NBA.com videos don’t let you embed so here’s the link – Roy’s Life: Episode 1

Gone Fishin’

By Johnny

Following along with Tony’s analogy about last night’s game being a critical home Game 6, I’ve decided to play TNT analyst and provide some end-of-the-season photoshop humor.

It may not be the end of the season yet, and Georgetown can win the Big East Tournament to earn themselves a spot in the Big Dance, but right now, it looks like it’s fishin’ season for the Hoyas.

But when you think about it, the Hoyas winning the Big East Tournament is much more likely than the Hoyas losing 9 out of 11 including to Seton Hall and twice to Cincinnati. So I guess the boys should stick to the gym and away from the Potomac.

Mike’s Louisville Postgame Thoughts

By Mike

Teams

Georgetown:
In this critical game for their postseason hopes, the Hoyas started flat, not looking at all focused, turning the ball over and allowing Louisville to jump out to a sizeable first half lead. The team then regained focus and scrapped to get back into the game, but spotting one of the best teams 17 points is not a formula for success. Neither is shooting 31% from the field in the second half.
