2008-09 Year in Review: Henry Sims

By Hoya Hoops
#30 Henry Sims
Points Per Game 1.9
Rebounds Per Game 1.7
Assists Per Game 0.3
Blocks Per Game 0.6
Steals Per Game 0.3
Turnovers Per Game 0.5
Minutes Per Game 9.8
Field Goal Percentage 40.4%
Free Throw Percentage 58.8%
Three-Point Field Goal Percentage 16.7%
Best Moment of Season His energy off the bench in the home win vs. Providence that earned him a standing ovation from the Hoya faithful.
Needs to Improve Upon Most for Next Year Bulk. As a freshman he showed good skills and awareness, but to be an impact player in the post in the Big East, Henry will need to put on a little muscle. He’s at the age where his body will bulk up a little anyway – the right time in the weight room will help.

2008-09 Year in Review: Jason Clark

By Hoya Hoops
#20 Jason Clark
Points Per Game 5.2
Rebounds Per Game 2.6
Assists Per Game 0.8
Blocks Per Game 0.2
Steals Per Game 0.6
Turnovers Per Game 1.5
Minutes Per Game 18.3
Field Goal Percentage 49.6%
Free Throw Percentage 83.3%
Three-Point Field Goal Percentage 34.0%
Best Moment of Season His huge 10 points off the bench against Providence that helped push the Hoyas to victory.
Needs to Improve Upon Most for Next Year Ball handling – teams applied extra high pressure when he was filling in at the point. Hopefully next year teams won’t be able to get away with that gimmick defense.

2008-09 Year in Review: Greg Monroe

By Hoya Hoops
#10 Greg Monroe
Points Per Game 12.7
Rebounds Per Game 6.5
Assists Per Game 2.5
Blocks Per Game 1.5
Steals Per Game 1.8
Turnovers Per Game 2.5
Minutes Per Game 30.9
Field Goal Percentage 57.2%
Free Throw Percentage 70.0%
Three-Point Field Goal Percentage 33.3%
Best Moment of Season Drive, dunk, and one vs. Providence at Verizon Center – the best individual highlight of the Hoya season.
Needs to Improve Upon Most for Next Year Strength on the ball – He gets fouled a lot, by bigs and by guards, but if he can fight players off just a little more, and hold the ball just a little longer he will earn a lot more free throws next year.

Hoyas Out of Playoffs, JTIII Watching

By Hoya Hoops
  • After injuring his knee in Game 2 of the opening round of the NBA Playoffs, Dikembe Mutombo has announced that he was retiring from basketball.
  • Even if Allen Iverson were to get healthy in the next month, it wouldn’t make any difference, as the Cleveland Cavaliers kicked his Detroit Pistons out of the NBA Playoffs last night. With that, no Hoyas are left in the postseason. If Houston were to win, however, Dikembe would still earn his first NBA Championship ring.
  • Coach John Thompson III was seen at the Verizon Center on Friday watching the Capitals in the NHL Playoffs. With the Caps winning both games this weekend, we might catch JTIII at the Phone Booth again tomorrow.

2008-09 Year in Review: Julian Vaughn

By Hoya Hoops
#22 Julian Vaughn
Points Per Game 1.8
Rebounds Per Game 1.7
Assists Per Game 0.6
Blocks Per Game 0.6
Steals Per Game 0.2
Turnovers Per Game 0.8
Minutes Per Game 8.8
Field Goal Percentage 45.7%
Free Throw Percentage 54.5%
Three-Point Field Goal Percentage 00.0%
Best Moment of Season His 7 points and 8 rebounds against Savannah State.
Needs to Improve Upon Most for Next Year Defensive rebounding. If he continues to be used as Monroe’s backup, he’s not going to be expected to fill the void on offense. Defensively he can make a huge impact if he pulls down 4 or 5 defensive boards per game.

2008-09 Year in Review: Nikita Mescheriakov

By Hoya Hoops
#5 Nikita Mescheriakov
Points Per Game 2.7
Rebounds Per Game 1.5
Assists Per Game 0.6
Blocks Per Game 0.1
Steals Per Game 0.4
Turnovers Per Game 1.0
Minutes Per Game 13.9
Field Goal Percentage 34.4%
Free Throw Percentage 57.1%
Three-Point Field Goal Percentage 26.2%
Best Moment of Season Two three-pointers in first half of Hoyas’ 14-point home win over Syracuse.
Needs to Improve Upon Most for Next Year Careless play – whether an untimely turnover or an unorthodox shot choice, better concentration will make him a better player.

The Circle of Life

By Hoya Hoops
  • Last night, the Hoyas closed the book on this disappointing season, holding the team banquet. It was a bittersweet moment for Georgetown fans, as the Hoyas said goodbye to the last remnants of the team that took Georgetown back to the Final Four. Here is what The Hoya had to say about the event.
  • The Georgetown coaching staff is already working to replace the missing pieces. The Faquier Times is reporting that Jerrelle Benimon will be attending Georgetown next season. He joins Vee Sandford among the recent additions, who committed yesterday.

2008-09 Year in Review: Omar Wattad

By Hoya Hoops
#31 Omar Wattad
Points Per Game 2.6
Rebounds Per Game 1.4
Assists Per Game 0.6
Blocks Per Game 0.0
Steals Per Game 0.3
Turnovers Per Game 0.7
Minutes Per Game 11.1
Field Goal Percentage 33.3%
Free Throw Percentage 66.7%
Three-Point Field Goal Percentage 28.9%
Best Moment of Season His numbers versus Tennessee.
Missed Opportunity Since Omar will be transferring, it looks like the Hoyas are still looking for their first four-year #31.

2008-09 Year in Review: Chris Wright

By Hoya Hoops
#4 Chris Wright
Points Per Game 12.5
Rebounds Per Game 3.0
Assists Per Game 3.8
Blocks Per Game 0.1
Steals Per Game 1.1
Turnovers Per Game 2.4
Minutes Per Game 32.9
Field Goal Percentage 48.2%
Free Throw Percentage 72.4%
Three-Point Field Goal Percentage 32.3%
Best Moment of Season Game-tying three-pointer to force overtime at Syracuse.
Needs to Improve Upon Most for Next Year Decision making. For being a point guard, Wright hasn’t been too good at running the break. If he could slightly improve his knowing when to create for himself or for his teammates, it will make the team a lot better.
