By Johnny

Jack O'LanternHalloween’s tomorrow, so for any Georgetown fan who isn’t 100% ready, here are some last minute preparations to make this year’s Halloween rock.

The three essentials to any good Halloween are of course your costume, your pumpkin, and your candy.

We haven’t got much time until Hoyaween, so let’s get cracking.

Hoyas in Top 25

By Hoya Hoops

The preseason rankings were announced today, and the Hoyas came out as #20 in the AP Top 25 and #21 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll.

There are 5 Big East teams in the AP Poll and 6 in the Coaches’ with Syracuse sneaking into spot #25. In both, Villanova leads the pack along with West Virginia, Connecticut, Louisville and the Hoyas.

Sweetney and Bowman Cut

By Hoya Hoops

Bad news for Hoyas trying to make it into the League:

  • Brandon Bowman was waived from the Philadelphia 76ers yesterday after playing with them throughout the NBA Training Camp.

  • Also, Mike Sweetney did not make the final cut for the Boston Celtics despite greatly impressing coach Doc Rivers.

According to the Celtics Blog at Boston.com, there are rumors that Rivers might keep Sweetney around so that he can workout with the team to help get back into shape.

Midnight Ambivalence

By Mike

This past Friday, college basketball season officially got underway. As most schools now do, the Georgetown Hoyas celebrated the start of the season with Midnight Madness festivities. Midnight Madness is in essence just one big pep rally, and its main if not sole purpose is to get the fans excited for the upcoming season. But, for Hoya fans, that’s easier said than done.

There was a competition at Friday night’s Midnight Madness: who could make the worst quality 4-minute video of the night’s events?

Two Things to Know Before Midnight Madness

By Johnny

Midnight Madness is tonight, and before college basketball season officially begins, I thought I’d let you in on a couple things relating to tonight’s festivities.

Since there are only a few hours left, I’d better get going.

New Jersey

Besides kicking-off the new season, celebrating last season’s accomplishments, dancing around with celebrities, and introducing the team’s freshmen and half-freshman, Midnight Madness at Georgetown is a time to honor recent Hoyas beginning their careers in the NBA.

This year, that person is DaJuan Summers.

Preseason Media Day

By Johnny

So yesterday afternoon, I headed over to McDonough for the Hoyas’ Preseason Media Day. It wasn’t too exciting, since the team isn’t even allowed to begin practices yet, but it was the first chance to hear from Coach Thompson and the players about the upcoming season, what to expect, and how they are trying to learn from last season’s setbacks.

Coach-and-Banners-at-Media-DayBefore I go into some quotes from one-on-one interviews with the players and a 20 minute free-for-all with Coach, here are some of the highlights for you:

Funniest Moment: Greg’s missed shot bouncing into a section of young reporters and knocking one of their tape recorders to the ground, sending the tape and batteries flying.

Most Awkward Moment: Liz Clarke asking Coach about Assistant Coach Rob Burke’s departure and the lack of an official press release – hint, he didn’t say much.

Most Hoya Pride Moment: Coach heading over to the bleachers to give Patrick Ewing, Jr. a hug before coming to address the media.

Quotes after the jump.
