Mount St. Mary’s In-Game Thread
By JohnnyJohnny here at the Phone Booth, and we’re about an hour away before the second game in three days for the Hoyas here at the Verizon Center. There’s a bit of a local rivalry between the teams, as Mount St. Mary’s is only about an hour and fifteen minutes from the hilltop, and the teams have met 25 times.
I’ll be checking in with info as soon as I get it, but for now, this is all I’ve got for you:
Refs: Bryan Kersey, Tony Crips, Brent Barnakey.
Starters look like the same for the Hoyas, but that’s been known to change.

I just got an email from Mex Carey, Georgetown’s Sports Information Director, and he notified me that Hollis Thompson was just named the Big East Rookie of the Week

The team’s have come out for their last rounds of layup lines, and the arena is still slowly filling in.

The National Anthem was just performed by a dude named Samuel Sander, not Dr. Vincent Kelly aka Santa Claus.
November 30th, 2009 at 7:32 pm
Starting lineups:
For the Mount: Cajou, Goode, Beidler, Atupem, and Krajina.
For the Hoyas – same five – Wright, Clark, Freeman, Vaughn, and Monroe.
November 30th, 2009 at 7:35 pm
Shawn Atupem has a huge high top fade ala Wesley Snipes in “White Men Can’t Jump”
November 30th, 2009 at 7:36 pm
Vaughn wins the opening tip, and Greg Monroe scores on the opening possession.
November 30th, 2009 at 7:37 pm
Freeman hits a looong two, and then Atupem gets the Mount on the board.
November 30th, 2009 at 7:39 pm
Chris Wright just threw the ball straight out of bounds after the student section was chanting “Fun-da-men-tals” for a Mount St. Mary’s carry.
November 30th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
Chris Wright hit a three to make it 11-6 Hoyas, and after a quick foul on Freeman, it’s the 16:00 timeout.
November 30th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
Hollis is set to be the Hoyas’ first man off the bench
November 30th, 2009 at 7:46 pm
Mile here in section 120. Hoyas sharing the ball well early, with all five starters already on the board.
November 30th, 2009 at 7:47 pm
Also, Henry will check in – much earlier than against Lafayette when he sat most of the 1st half.
November 30th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
A three for Monroe makes it 27-21 Hoyas
November 30th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
And we’ve reached the 12:00 official timeout.
November 30th, 2009 at 7:53 pm
It looks like Georgetown is making a concerted effort to crash the offensive boards. They already have a few second chance points thanks to thee rebounding.
November 30th, 2009 at 7:54 pm
Vaughn with a nice post move and baby hook for two.
November 30th, 2009 at 7:55 pm
I’m not listening to Chvotkin, but I bet he called that a Clark steal, and then stolen back, and that time, that’s pretty close to accurate.
November 30th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
Another pass straight out of bounds, and it’s the 8 minute timeout. Hoyas wining 31-24
November 30th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
Jiffy Lube Trivia Question:
How many players did the Hoyas put into double figures in their 97-64 win of over Lafayette on Saturday?
A. three
B. four
C. five
D. six
November 30th, 2009 at 7:59 pm
This is only my first game, but section 109 is rockin’! Go hoyas!
November 30th, 2009 at 8:02 pm
Three for Hollis gives the Hoyas an 11 point lead.
November 30th, 2009 at 8:05 pm
Nikita’s in for the first time tonight.
November 30th, 2009 at 8:08 pm
Another errant pass, and the Hoyas have 6 turnovers so far.
November 30th, 2009 at 8:09 pm
Well, maybe that one was tipped and not a TO, but the Hoyas do have 6 so far.
November 30th, 2009 at 8:10 pm
The Hoyas call their 1st half timeout with 17.4 seconds remaining. To tell you the truth, it was more like 19 seconds, but the table let the clock run a couple seconds off.
November 30th, 2009 at 8:12 pm
Nikita misses a three from the corner, and that ends the half. Hoyas are up 40-29.
Everyone who’s come in for the Hoyas have scored except for Mescheriakov.
Greg has 9 points and 7 rebounds to go along with 2 assists.
November 30th, 2009 at 8:15 pm
Halftime. Only 4 total fouls in the half, three of them on the Hoyas. Sims, Freeman, and Monroe all have one. Monroe’s foul was for an illegal screen if dubious validity.
November 30th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
Johnny, let’s assume all of your positive stats mean “except for Mescheriakou”
November 30th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Hoyas shooting 53.1% from the field and 50% from three
OR
Hoyas shooting 54.8% from the field and 55.5% from three except for Mescheriakov.
November 30th, 2009 at 8:26 pm
Stats here say Vaughn has three blocks and Sims has one. I think that’s probably not 100% correct but there was at least one play where both guys blocked it together, so maybe they gave that to Vaughn.
November 30th, 2009 at 8:34 pm
Alley-oop from Wright to Vaughn after a press break gets the crowd here excited.
November 30th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
Hoyas now have a 16 point lead, and the Mount needs a timeout. Hoyas up 47-31 with 16:54 left in the game.
November 30th, 2009 at 8:37 pm
Hoyas score four quick points in transition, and MSM needs another timeout.
November 30th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
MASN just showed a shot of the band after the Wright lay-up…three guys were pumping one fist, while stuffing a hot dog in their mouth with the other. HOYA SAXA
November 30th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
Looks like Vee is set to check in for the first time tonight.
November 30th, 2009 at 8:49 pm
Hoyas haven’t scored in a while, and this game is getting very sloppy.
November 30th, 2009 at 8:49 pm
Hoyas haven’t scored in five minutes and are letting the mount creep back into the game.
November 30th, 2009 at 8:50 pm
It’s box eating time.
November 30th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
That Freeman layup stopped a Mountaineer 9-0 run.
November 30th, 2009 at 8:59 pm
Mike made it to the big screen again:
After 4 Days of Pumpkin Pie
It’s Time for a CUPCAKE
November 30th, 2009 at 8:59 pm
He lost the fan of the game competition to a little kid though.
November 30th, 2009 at 9:02 pm
Jerrelle Benimon looks set to check in for the first time since Tulane.
November 30th, 2009 at 9:04 pm
Great play by Clark to score while getting fouled. He tried a backdoor in close quarters so after receiving the bounce pass he had to fade away from close range.
November 30th, 2009 at 9:06 pm
Wright checks out with 18 points in favor of Vee Sanford. Could be the last we see of some of the starters now.
November 30th, 2009 at 9:06 pm
Greg just earned his second double-double of the season, and sixth in his career.
November 30th, 2009 at 9:11 pm
Clark just missed his 1st FT of the season.
November 30th, 2009 at 9:12 pm
And now he’s missed two.
November 30th, 2009 at 9:13 pm
Clark checks out in favor of Nikita, and Jason gets a nice ovation for his effort.
Vee gets on the board with a FT.
November 30th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
The crowd here tried to do a “We Are Georgetown” as Benimon and Nikita took turns trying to turn the ball over.
November 30th, 2009 at 9:17 pm
Dougherty just checked in.
November 30th, 2009 at 9:18 pm
This is Hoya basketball!
November 30th, 2009 at 9:18 pm
Hoyas could run out the clock, but they turn it over and commit a foul.
November 30th, 2009 at 9:20 pm
That’ll do it. Hoyas win this one 83-62. Next game is on Saturday at 4:00pm against American.
