Studying Statistics During Exam Week
By TonyToday is Friday, which means that the Hoyas return to action tomorrow and that the most boring week of college basketball is over.
Exam time means that there are few (if any) noteworthy games, and even when important teams are in action, they are playing teams that have as much chance to win as the Washington Generals do against the Harlem Globetrotters.
At any rate, exam week gave me some extra time to review the Hoyas’ season stats so far. So here are some things that may interest you. Even if you don’t find them interesting, keep in mind that yesterday there were ZERO Top 25 teams in action.
- The Hoyas are now 8-0 which equals the best start to a season under John Thompson III (the Hoyas started 8-0 in the 2007-08 season before losing on the road to Memphis 85-71)
- Greg Monroe has gone 47-104 from the field this season, 45.2 FG%. That field goal percentage is the lowest on the team among all 7 Hoyas that have played in each of the 8 games this season.
- Georgetown has three players shooting over 80% from the foul line, Jason Clark is at 83.3% (15-18 FT), Chris Wright is at 86.2 (25-29 FT), and Austin Freeman is at 94.7% (18-19 FT). Freeman’s only miss from the line came against American.
**Vee Sanford is 100% from the line, but I didn’t include him since he’s only been to the line six times. Keep it up. - Julian Vaughn on the other hand is doing pretty poorly from the foul line; 35.7% (5-14 FT). Bend your knees, Julian.
- Monroe leads the Hoyas in scoring with 15.3 points per game. Three other Hoyas all average over 12 per game. Wright has scored a total of 101 points, while Freeman and Clark have scored 97 points each.
- Hollis Thompson leads the Hoyas in three point field goal percentage at 50% on 7-14 3PT
- Since 1982 Georgetown has only lost one game at McDonough Gymnasium. That game was in the 2006-07 season to Old Dominion. ODU is the Hoyas’ opponent tomorrow night at McDonough Gymnasium.
