Duke Recap

By Hoya Hoops

Over 20,000 fans filled Verizon Center to see two heavyweights square off for an interconference battle. The Georgetown Hoyas turned a potential barn-burner into a laugher, easily dismantling the Duke Blue Devils 89-77 in a game that was not as close as the score suggests.

Duke Postgame Press Conference

By Johnny

Georgetown demolished Duke in front of the President of the United States and a packed house at the Verizon Center. After the game, here’s what went down in the Media Room.

First, Coach Krzyzewski took the podium:

Duke In-Game Thread

By Johnny

There’s crazy traffic out there due to the sticking snow, DC Auto Show, and Duke vs Georgetown game. Add into that, they are sweeping every car that comes into the Verizon Center Parking lot, and it makes for a long ride to the Phone Booth.

They’re checking every bag, making you turn on all electronic equipment, and screening everyone through metal detectors.

If President Obama does not show up for this Big East-ACC matchup, then all this security might be a bit overkill.

Regardless, Hoya fans don’t care if the President shows up; they just care that the Boys in Gray come up with a victory. The entire lower bowl and most of the middle tier here all have Gray Out t-shirts on the seats, only the 400s show the Verizon Center purple.

Anyway, this is a big game, on national network television, and I’ll be giving in-game updates for the next few hours. For now, here’s what I know:

Referees will be Bryan Kersey, Ed Corbett, and Michael Stephens.

Starting lineups look like:
Wright, Clark, Freeman, Vaughn, and Monroe for the Hoyas
Smith, Singler, Plumlee, Scheyer, and Thomas for the Blue Devils.

  • Get there as early as you can and plan for lots of traffic.
  • Doors open at 11:00am despite 1:00pm start.
  • Don’t bring bags unless you have to.

Chris vs. Duke

By Hoya Hoops

Last week, we asked everybody who was going to step up big over the weekend and average the most points against Rutgers and Syracuse.

Hoyasincebirth was right on the money with his guess of Austin Freeman with 18 points. Austin averaged 18.5 over the two games, and like hoyasincebirth suggested, most of those points came against Cuse. Unfortunately, Austin’s points were not nearly enough to win that one.

So, congratulations to hoyasincebirth, but let’s try to forget about that last one as quickly as possible.

On Saturday, the Duke Blue Devils return to the Verizon Center to face the Hoyas four years and nine days after the upset that put Georgetown back in the national spotlight.

Last year, the loss at Duke was pinpointed by many as the turnaround point of the year, the game that started triggered the Hoyas’ most disappointing season in recent history.

Will this year’s game have as much significance? Probably not. But that doesn’t mean that the Hoyas are going to take it easy in their first game on network television.

Since he’s used by many as an indicator of the Hoyas’ success this year, we’re going to be talking about Chris Wright.

How many points will Chris Wright score against Duke?

We’re going to say that Chris will score 21 points on Saturday, leading the Hoyas to victory.

What do you think? Remember, the Hoyas have won every game when Chris reached double-digits, and are 1-4 when he hasn’t.

Mike’s Syracuse Postgame Thoughts

By Mike

Teams

Georgetown:
This is a game the Hoyas must forget quickly. They played well for the first few minutes but then completely fell apart. Very little good can come from harping on this loss; the team has to pick themselves up and move on.

Syracuse Recap

By Hoya Hoops

Georgetown jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first three minutes against Syracuse, but that would be as good as it got for the Hoyas. Syracuse embarrassed Georgetown from that point on, cruising to a 73-56 victory.
