Duke In-Game Thread
By JohnnyThere’s crazy traffic out there due to the sticking snow, DC Auto Show, and Duke vs Georgetown game. Add into that, they are sweeping every car that comes into the Verizon Center Parking lot, and it makes for a long ride to the Phone Booth.
They’re checking every bag, making you turn on all electronic equipment, and screening everyone through metal detectors.
If President Obama does not show up for this Big East-ACC matchup, then all this security might be a bit overkill.
Regardless, Hoya fans don’t care if the President shows up; they just care that the Boys in Gray come up with a victory. The entire lower bowl and most of the middle tier here all have Gray Out t-shirts on the seats, only the 400s show the Verizon Center purple.
Anyway, this is a big game, on national network television, and I’ll be giving in-game updates for the next few hours. For now, here’s what I know:
Referees will be Bryan Kersey, Ed Corbett, and Michael Stephens.
Starting lineups look like:
Wright, Clark, Freeman, Vaughn, and Monroe for the Hoyas
Smith, Singler, Plumlee, Scheyer, and Thomas for the Blue Devils.

I think “Gray-out” is dumb…of your colors are black, white, or brown it’s fine since blackout, etc are actual terms. There are a lot of words that rhyme with gray, I know there’s something more clever. But, the GU promotions department has never been very good, remember that weird tire roll contest? Go Hoyas!

Georgetown’s Sports Information Director Mex Carey is wearing a gray suit today, and Voice of the Hoyas Rich Chvotkin has got his gray Georgetown warmup sweatshirt on.
January 30th, 2010 at 12:26 pm
Something that has gone unmentioned – or at least hasn’t been talked about as much as the Gray Out and the President – is that today’s game is a part of Coaches vs Cancer Suits and Sneakers Awareness Weekend.
If you see the coaches and staff wearing less than formal footwear on CBS, don’t think they’re slacking off; it’s for a good cause.

15 minutes to the anthem and starting lineups, and this place is as packed as it’s been all season.
January 30th, 2010 at 12:47 pm
D.J. Owens is sitting right in front of me on the baseline today.
January 30th, 2010 at 12:49 pm
Okay, so I lied. He was just saying hello to the people sitting on the baseline. Now he’s heading towards behind the bench.
January 30th, 2010 at 12:57 pm
Lied again, he’s back to sitting in front of me. See?
January 30th, 2010 at 1:00 pm
The President has just come in, and he is sitting courtside across from the Hoyas’ bench.
January 30th, 2010 at 1:02 pm
Chimes sang the National Anthem, but there was no introduction, and everyone was cheering for the President, so we missed the first few lines.
January 30th, 2010 at 1:03 pm
Looks like Pres. Obama’s assistant and Duke basketball alum Reggie Love is nowhere to be seen.
January 30th, 2010 at 1:05 pm
Mayor Fenty is also here, sitting across the corner from the President on the baseline. Not a lot of press taking photos of him though.
January 30th, 2010 at 1:07 pm

They’re introducing the Georgetown Women’s Rowing Team who won the Big East Team Academic Excellence Award for highest GPA among…(couldn’t hear the rest).
January 30th, 2010 at 1:18 pm
Greg gets hammered on one end by two or three guys, no call. Foul on Wright for a handcheck on the other end gets the Hoya faithful upset.
January 30th, 2010 at 1:24 pm
At the 12:00 timeout, Hoyas are up 16-15.
January 30th, 2010 at 1:25 pm

They’re setting up schools and helping fund a lot of great educational opportunities for Darfur.

January 30th, 2010 at 1:35 pm
Six quick points for the Hoyas push the lead to 11, and Duke calls timeout.
January 30th, 2010 at 1:37 pm
Scheyer goes for a lookaway alleyoop, but Greg drew the charge as Jon was looking the wrong way.
January 30th, 2010 at 1:38 pm

January 30th, 2010 at 2:43 pm
How is that not an intentional foul?
January 30th, 2010 at 2:49 pm
It’s getting very loud in here.
January 30th, 2010 at 2:55 pm
Everyone who’s played so far for the Hoyas has 3 fouls. Benimon has 4.
Technically Vee played the last possession of the half, so not everyone.
January 30th, 2010 at 2:58 pm
What a huge play by Vaughn, grabbing the offensive board, scoring the layup, and getting fouled. He missed the FT though.
January 30th, 2010 at 2:59 pm
So apparently I lied, cause now Freeman has 3 fouls.
January 30th, 2010 at 3:09 pm

That’ll do it. Hoyas win this one 89-77. the most points Duke has given up this year, the 200th career win for John Thompson III, the highest FG% by the Hoyas under JTIII. Lots of good things for the Hoyas today.
