Mike’s South Florida Postgame Thoughts
By MikeTeams
Georgetown:
The Hoyas started the game strong, and it looked as though Georgetown would coast to an easy victory. But the Hoyas didn’t come out of the locker room after halftime ready to play at all, and they sleepwalked through the second half. The offense looked disjointed, with too many turnovers and poor shot selection. On defense, Georgetown played fairly well, but they allowed too much penetration, and they did not get stops when the team needed them.
South Florida:
To be honest, the Bulls did not play an outstanding game. They did make some shots and they did a good job clogging the passing lanes defensively, but this was a game where I would say the Hoyas lost rather than the Bulls won.
Players
Georgetown:
Greg Monroe was scoring at will in the first half, posting up his defender and using a variety of moves, from an up-and-under to a running right-handed hook to get baskets. But in the second half, he moved outside and was far less effective, and without his consistent scoring inside, it made it harder for the rest of the team to get easy looks. Monroe had eight rebounds in the first half and zero in the second which shows his lack of inside presence in the second half.
South Florida:
Dominique Jones had another stand-out game, scoring a game-high 29 points and grabbing eight rebounds. He is not a great three point shooter, but he does a great job of getting to the basket and finishing or drawing a foul, as he shot 17 free throws on the night.
Referees
The refereeing was horrible in this game. No question about it. Three of Monroe’s five fouls were dubious at best. They missed an obvious shot clock violation in the first half, and they were inconsistent, which is the worst trait for a referee to half. The Hoyas had a poor showing, and the referees performance was equally bad.
Fans
The crowd was significantly smaller than at the Duke game, but they did their best to rally the home side when the Hoyas fell down by eight. They were on their feet urging the Hoyas to get stops or scores, but unfortunately the fans went home disappointed, as Georgetown did not do enough to merit a win.
Number of the Game
17: Second half scoring edge for South Florida. The Bulls outscored Georgetown 46-29 in the second half, including a ten minute stretch where the Hoyas would make only one field goal. When your opponents outscore you by 17 in the second half, it is nearly impossible to win. Just ask Connecticut.

Good stuff. I’m a 51 year old hoya fan from Indiana, so I know execellent basketball knowlege when I see it. Also worst coached game by JT3. He needs to be mean, insist that Chris Wright Score, Monroe Stay inside to score, or go to Vaughn and Clark more.
