Syracuse In-Game Thread
By JohnnyHey everyone, Johnny here at the Verizon Center. We’re a little over half an hour away from the huge rivalry game between Georgetown and Syracuse. The Hoyas fell to the Orange earlier in the season, but that was at the Carrier Dome. Tonight, the sides face off in Chinatown, where the Hoyas are 12 and 1.
So far, Georgetown has split with the two teams they’ve played twice this season, with the home team winning each matchup. Let’s see if that trend continues to day with a win for the Boys in Gray.
I’ll be checking back in throughout the game, but I already have this info for you:
The Hoyas will be starting the usual five – Wright, Clark, Freeman, Monroe, and Vaughn.
The Orange will start Jackson, Rautins, Johnson, Onuaku and Triche.
And tonight’s officials will be Jim burr, Jamie Luckey, and James Breeding – three Jameses.

I don’t know if it’s just because orange is brighter than blue, but I see a lot more fans in the lower bowl cheering for Syracuse than Duke had a few weeks back.
February 18th, 2010 at 6:51 pm
Wow, one can only imagine, lol…
February 18th, 2010 at 6:53 pm
There are so many Cuse fans here, actually, that the Hoya faithful and the Orange fans are chanting back and forth. It got pretty loud when the teams came out for their last round of warmups.
February 18th, 2010 at 6:57 pm

Quick start for Syracuse gives them an 11-2 lead, and the Hoyas need a timeout. The bigger problem is that Monroe already has 2 fouls, and we’re barely three minutes in to the game.

14-3 run for the Hoyas has got the crowd excited again. Problem is, they were down by 23 when the run started.
February 18th, 2010 at 8:51 pm
Hoyas cut the lead to five, Syracuse needs a timeout, and the crowd goes absolutely NUTS!
February 18th, 2010 at 8:57 pm
Steal by Wright, massive transition dunk from Austin, and it’s a two-point game.
February 18th, 2010 at 9:05 pm
With 1:10 to play, Greg Monroe goes 1 of 2 from the line to cut the lead to 70-71. But Greg pulls down the offensive rebound on his miss and calls a timeout.
Hoyas ball, 1:07 left, Georgetown down by 1. The Hoyas have never led. The closest they’ve been is 0-0.
February 18th, 2010 at 9:13 pm
A couple things didn’t bounce Georgetown’s way at the end, and Hoyas lose it 71-75.
It was a valiant comeback, with Chris Wright, Austin Freeman, and Greg Monroe all reaching 20 points, but in the end, it wasn’t enough.
