Cincinnati In-Game Thread
By JohnnyHey everyone. Johnny here at Verizon Center, less than an hour away from tipoff on Georgetown’s Senior Day. True, Georgetown doesn’t have any seniors on the roster this year, but for some cheerleaders, band members, and fans in the student section, this will be the last Hoya game at the Verizon Center in their undergraduate careers.
With a win, Georgetown will secure a first-round bye in the Big East Tournament, and they will have reached 20 wins on the season and 10 conference victories. With a loss, the Hoyas may have to play on Tuesday, depending on the outcomes of other Big East games going on today.
This is the first game since the Hoyas announced that Austin Freeman has been diagnosed with diabetes and was listed as day-to-day. Right now, the scoreboard lists Hollis Thompson as a starter, so we will have to see how much playing time Free gets today, if any.
Edit: Austin will be starting after all and the scoreboard has been updated
Here are the lineups and referees:
The Hoyas are starting Austin Freeman Hollis Thompson, Chris Wright, Jason Clark, Julian Vaughn, and Greg Monroe.
For the Bearcats, it will be Vaughn, Davis, Stephenson, Gates, and Toyloy Vaughn, Bishop, Thomas, Stephenson, and Gates.
The officials this afternoon will be Jim Haney, Michael Kitts, and Brian O’Connell.

Oh yeah, I guess I forgot that Georgetown is on spring break this week. So for a lot of students, the Notre Dame game was their make-shift Senior Day.
Yuck.

Austin is wearing his warmups and going through the layup lines, so maybe he’ll get limited minutes to see how he feels.
March 6th, 2010 at 11:46 am
I’ve just head word that Austin will be starting and the scoreboard hasn’t updated yet. That sounds like good news for #15.

During the pregame video, they show a shot of Austin Freeman when they say “We are…defiant in the face of obstacles”
That’s appropriate even more today.

At center court, Coach Thompson is honoring Austin Freeman for entering the 1,000 point club. Now he has 1,112 points.

Austin gets a nice standing ovation and “Aus-tin Freeman!” chant.

The Bearcats win the tip, and score on their third shot attempt. 2-0 Cincinnati.

And Austin Freeman starts the scoring for the Hoyas, 2-2.
March 6th, 2010 at 12:08 pm
Hoyas take their first lead thanks to a nice pass by Vaughn for a Clark layup. 6-5 Hoyas.
March 6th, 2010 at 12:24 pm
Freeman has five straight points – a three to regain the lead, and a tough two with a guy all over him.
At the 8:00 timeout, Austin gets another standing ovation with his name chanted again.
March 6th, 2010 at 12:25 pm
And now they’re honoring the senior cheerleaders and pep band members.

Cincinnati just got their first points in five minutes. They’re trailing by 13 now.
March 6th, 2010 at 1:29 pm
Cashmere Wright just fouled Chris Wright. Earlier Julian Vaughn fouled Deonta Vaughn.
March 6th, 2010 at 1:33 pm
Behind me in the student section, they are holding up signs that spell out AFREE15. Each sign has notes written by students wishing Austin their best as he deals with his newly diagnosed diabetes.
March 6th, 2010 at 1:37 pm
Hoyas now lead by 25. Georgetown is on a 25-6 run.
March 6th, 2010 at 1:42 pm
Two Hollis Thompson free throws are the first points outside of Freeman, Wright, Monroe, and Clark.
March 6th, 2010 at 1:44 pm
And now Vaughn has scored.
March 6th, 2010 at 1:45 pm
Mike Kitts just blew his whistle…to tie his shoe.
March 6th, 2010 at 1:50 pm
And that’ll do it. Hoyas win this one easily, 74-47. Austin Freeman led all scorers with 24 points, and Greg Monroe earned himself his 11th double-double of the season.
