West Virginia Recap

By Hoya Hoops

The Georgetown Hoyas came up 2 points short in their quest for their 8th Big East Tournament Championship.

With the score tied, West Virginia’s Da’Sean Butler scored a short jumper in the lane with 4.2 seconds left to put the Mountaineers up by 2. Chris Wright drove the length of the floor and had a sprawling layup deflected as the buzzer sounded to give West Virginia their first Big East Championship since joining the league back in the 1995-96 season. West Virginia led for most of the game, extending their advantage to 9 points in the second half, but the Hoyas rallied and managed to tie the score in the final minutes on a three-pointer from Austin Freeman. West Virginia made two free throws in the final minute, before Wright’s spinning layup tied the score again, setting up the final possession for the Mountaineers.

Naturally, Da’Sean Butler was named the most outstanding player of the tournament,. Both Chris Wright and Greg Monroe were all-tournament selections for Georgetown. The team will now head back to Washington, D.C. and await their position for the NCAA Tournament.

Heartbreaker! But to lose by 2 points when we were outrebounded as much as we were says a lot for the Hoyas. Here’s hoping for a deep run in the NCAA. Way to bounce back from the end of conference play and make a really nice showing in the BET. Let’s Go Hoyas!

Big East regs pulled a Donaghy… WVU scores all their final points from the line except last which was a travel. Vegas pulling the strings on the point shaving…

Not the best game for the Hoyas. They gave it their all but the combination of physical play and perhap some fattigue led to WVU getting to almost every loose ball. Big play was not gathering in the rebound on their shot late. A rebound there would have given us the last shot.

Also our shooting was way off and we didn’t get the wide open looks we usually get, credit WVU’s defense

I second Bobby’s wish for the NCAA. At least let’s hope we stay away from Big East teams for the most part.
