Exam Day 1: American Studies

By Johnny

Georgetown’s next opponent is American University, with tipoff scheduled for Saturday at noon. With that in mind, we decided to start off exam week with some American Studies:

AMST 304 – Basketball in the District

In 2007, Georgetown and American played each other for the first time since the 1986-87 season. In the three recent meetings, the Hoyas have defeated the Eagles pretty handily, winning those games by an average score 26 points. In the old days, Georgetown and American used to play each other all the time. In fact, the two teams played each other every year from 1953 – 1986.

1. What happened in the 1986-87 meeting that convinced Hoya Coach John Thompson to stop playing American University?

Before the 2009-10 season, assistant coach Mike Brennan left the Eagles sideline to reunite with John Thompson III with whom he had worked at Princeton. Meanwhile longtime assistant coach Robert Burke parted ways with the Hoyas and joined coach Jeff Jones at American.

2. Where is Robert Burke now?
