After a 21 point victory over Villanova on Saturday, Georgetown closed out their home season with another shellacking, this time destroying Notre Dame 59-41. As Georgetown has done for most of the season, the Hoyas won by wearing out their opponents, growing the lead patiently and methodically, working hard on defense and executing offensively. The Fighting Irish looked out of sync for most of the game and lost for their second time in three days. The win improves Georgetown to 12-5 in conference play, tying them with Notre Dame in 3rd place.

Hey everybody. Johnny here from Verizon Center, half an hour before tipoff of Georgetown’s last home game of the season as they face off against Notre Dame. We were tricked last time, but today really is senior night, so they will be honoring Jason Clark and Henry Sims before tonight’s game.
These two sides are fighting for position in the big East standings, and thanks to a big Saturday with Georgetown beating Villanova and Notre Dame losing to St. John’s, the Hoyas can leapfrog the Irish and move into 3rd place in the standings with a win tonight.
Notre Dame has struggling on the road this season, but tonight is a huge game for them, and as always, they have a fair share of fans in the Verizon Center. Hopefully, the Hoyas can keep the Irish fans quiet with a strong start to this one.
As always, I’ll be checking in throughout the game with news and updates, but for now, here’s all the info I’ve got:
- According to the big screen, the Hoya starters are Clark, Thompson, Porter, Lubick, and Sims. So no Starks again.
- The Irish look to start Atkins, Martin, Grant, Connaughton, and Cooley.
- The refs for tonight’s game are going to be Anthony Greene, John Gaffney, and Ed Corbett.

- It was NBA All-Star Weekend, and after last year marked the first All-Star game without a Hoya on the roster in 24 year, Roy Hibbert represented Georgetown in this year’s festivities. While he only scored three points for the East, he also had some fun on Saturday night, getting dunked on by teammate Paul George in the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest.
- On Friday night, Greg Monroe had a big game in the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge, playing for Team Shaq. Despite falling to Team Chuck, Greg put up an impressive line, earning 19 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals, and 1 block. His last steal came with 15 seconds left when he sneakily grabbed the ball from John Wall trying to throw himself an alley-oop.

Teams
Georgetown:
The Hoyas bounced back from their poor performance against Seton Hall to soundly defeat Villanova, 67-46. Georgetown earned the victory by returning to the fundamentals that has brought the team success. The defense was back to its stellar self, holding the Wildcats to 28% shooting from the field. And, with so many missed shots, the Hoyas did a great job on the boards, outrebounding Villanova 41-24. Defense and rebounding have been the two keys to success for the Hoyas, and when the team does both well, they are hard to beat.
That being said, it was not a great performance from the Hoyas. The team was sloppy at times, committing 14 turnovers, and the offense did not execute as well as it has in other games this season, as evidenced by only 10 assists on 24 made field goals and 23% three-point shooting. Still, for Georgetown to be able to get a win with its offense not really clicking is a good sign.
