So the first game of the 2008-09 season starts in less than a month, and I’m still not 100% set on my gameday schedule. I don’t know if I’ll be taking the metro to Chinatown or if I’ll be driving. If I drive, I don’t know where I’ll park. I don’t know if I should go to McDonough to pick up my press pass or if I’m just supposed to get it at Verizon Center on November 17. But while I’m not completely set on my plan for the whole season, I am all prepared for the three games of the Old Spice Classic.

The NBA season tips off on October 28th. It’s easy to miss some of the transactions in the NBA during the off-season, so here is a list of all of the Hoyas in the league. Naturally, all of this is subject to change, but here’s what we have right now.

CBS Sports announced yesterday that long-time college basketball analyst Billy Packer would be replaced this season by Clark Kellogg. Packer had been the #1 color analyst for CBS for over 30 years; this past season he called his 34th consecutive Final Four. For basketball fans, there are two main questions for the CBS decision makers: 1) Why now? 2) What the hell took you guys so long?

For those of you who don’t know, I am the radio play-by-play announcer for DC United of Major League Soccer. I’m the closest thing that franchise has to Rich Chvotkin. The team played in New England yesterday, and this morning I was returning to BWI from Providence, RI. As I approached the front of the security line I saw a major celebrity a few people in front of me. She’s not only carries superstar status in Providence but also on HoyaHoops.com – Doris Burke!

Wow. Looks like we haven’t posted anything here in over a week. Well, I guess that’s because there hasn’t been too much going on recently in the Hoyaverse.

Last night, Georgetown honored the 2007-08 Men’s Basketball Team at the Hoya Hoop Club Basketball Banquet. We know that a lot of you were unable to make it, so we had decided to send a Hoya Hoops representative to the Leavey Center to provide some details to those who missed out. I was that representative, and while I am not going to give you a full recount of what took place, I’ll do my best to talk about the highlights.

With the NCAA Championship game ending on Monday, it’s now time to come up with the all-tournament team. There are probably hundreds of such lists already out there, so we at Hoya Hoops decided to do it a little differently. We are picking the people who made the tournament especially memorable for us, but not due to their play. Due to their names. So, here are our All-Tournament names:

The Final Four is upon us once again. Personally, it seems like much longer than just one year ago that the Hoyas were preparing to take on Ohio State in the 2007 Final Four. A lot has changed in that one year, both nationally and on the hilltop. Throughout this season in college basketball, I felt like there were three teams that were the top teams in the country – Memphis, Kansas, and UCLA. There were a handful of teams that were just slightly below that upper echelon – North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Georgetown, and Louisville among a few others. I felt that even as a #2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, the Hoyas would have had to have a lot of things go their way to win the National Championship. As it was, very little did go their way.

CBS hails itself as “America’s Most Watched Network,” and part of that is no doubt due to the huge ratings they get from the second week in March until the first weekend in April. CBS has had the rights to the NCAA Tournament for as long as I can remember. And, for as long as I can remember, the coverage of the tournament has been atrocious. This year is no exception.
