Teams

Georgetown:
The Hoyas came out strong and decided this game after just eight minutes. This was the kind of start that Georgetown would love to see every game: high pressure defense leading to fast breaks, and hitting long distance shots when open. When the Hoyas start off firing on all cylinders, they’re tough to beat.

Fordham:
Fordham never had a chance on Monday, and their 23.5% from the field in the first half didn’t help, especially compared to the Hoyas’ 64.5%.

Players

Georgetown:
Jonathan Wallace missed a free throw on Monday. That was about the only thing wrong with his game. He led the Hoyas in scoring for the first time this season with his 19 points, he broke Kevin Braswell’s Career Three Point Record, he joined elite company in the 1,000 Point Club, and he shot 87.5% from the field (including 4-5 from three point land). And after the game, he was extremely modest in the press conference: “It’s a blessing being in good company. Like I said, all the different players that’s come through - it’s just an honor.”

Fordham:
Marcus Stout played his heart out at the Verizon Center, scoring right around half of Fordham’s total points. At halftime, he had scored 17 of their 27. I’m sure a lot of Hoyas fans noticed that Austin Freeman started in place of Ewing this weekend, but Fordham’s guard goes to show that it doesn’t matter who starts the game, as Stout’s 27 off the bench would impress anyone.

Coaches

Besides the starting change, the main thing that interested me was that Thompson did not let Nikita get his first minutes on Monday. After being ineligible for the first ten games, I thought he would certainly see some action against Fordham, especially after the way the first half went. With about three minutes to go in the game, #10 was at the scorer’s table ready to check in. But for some reason, Coach Thompson changed his mind, and at the next horn, it was Jansen subbing in instead.

Referees

The refs had absolutely no impact in this one. The way the Hoyas started, no one was going to stop them. Not even the men in the striped uniforms.

Fans

A pretty tame crowd, probably because the game was scheduled in the afternoon on a work day - I still don’t really understand that. But besides the fans, I want to thank Eastern High School’s band, who for the second game in a row filled in superbly for the Georgetown Pep Band while they were on Christmas break.

Number of the Game

100: Roy Hibbert’s career three point percentage. Roy took his first three on Monday, and he hit it with no problems. I think it’s funny that on the day Jonathan Wallace broke the all time three point record, it was Roy’s three that will be remembered the most.

In their final game of 2007, the Georgetown Hoyas put together a phenomenal offensive display in the first half on their way to an 82-55 victory over Fordham. Georgetown made 13 consecutive field goal attempts in the first half on their way to a 30-point lead at 41-11.

Jonathan Wallace made history twice in this game. First, he broke the Georgetown record for most three-point field goals made in a career, and later became the 39th player in school history to break the 1,000 point mark. Wallace finished with a team-high 19 points. All five Hoya starters scored in double figures, including freshman Austin Freeman who earned his first career start today, taking the place of Patrick Ewing Jr., who was used as a sub. Fordham’s Marcus Stout scored a game-high 27 points.

Georgetown’s record now stands at 10-1 as the Hoyas have completed the non-conference portion of their schedule. All 18 remaining games on the schedule for the Hoyas will be against Big East opponents, beginning on Saturday January 5, when the Hoyas travel to Piscataway, NJ to take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Tip off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.

Hey everybody, Johnny here at the Verizon Center. We're still about 11 hours from 2008, but we're only one hour away from the last Hoyas game of the year. The teams are warming up right now, and one thing of note: Nikita Mescheriakov is dressed and ready to play after his ten game suspension. He's warming up with the rest of the guys, and be sure to look out for him if the Hoyas start to get a comfortable lead.

I'll check back in with the starting lineups in a few.

Before the Memphis game, we asked what the total points would be between the two teams. We guessed 153 and the Hoyas and Tigers combined for 156. Unfortunately, Georgetown didn't have more than half of those points though. So we won that contest, but the Hoyas lost the game. Let's see if you guys can beat us in the predictions, and the Hoyas can beat their foes this weekend.

Since Georgetown is taking on two teams this weekend (yes, we're counting Monday as a part of the weekend), we've decided to combine the predictions this time, and just ask one question:

Which player will score the most points against American and Fordham and what will his point total be?

Now we mean combined points here, so we only want one player. We're gonna go with Roy with 43 because after the Memphis game, he made some comments about being more aggressive from now on.

What do you think?
