Underclassmen at Home

By Hoya Hoops

Before the Hoyas’ trip to Louisville, we asked everybody how many points the team would put up in the KFC Yum! Center. Bob from Columbia guessed 72 and the Hoyas actually scored 71. If Otto had made one of those last free throws, he would have hit it on the head. Regardless, he was the closest, so congratulations, Bob.

Against the Cardinals, the freshmen and sophomores put up an impressive 47 points for the Hoyas, carrying the team through the first half, and helping to close out the victory down the line. With Georgetown’s Big East home opener only hours away, we had this question for you:

How many points will the Hoya underclassmen score against Providence and who will lead them?

We’re going to say they’ll score 25 points with the hot-hand of Markel Starks leading the way. What do you think? Post your guesses below.

Scoring at the Yum!

By Hoya Hoops

Before the Memphis game, we asked everybody how many point the seniors would combine for. Henry Sims and Jason Clark combined for 30 points against the Tigers, which means Julien wins with a perfect prediction.

Tonight, the Hoyas face their first Big East opponent of the season in their second road game. Louisville has won their last 20 home games, with their last loss at the KFC Yum! Center coming last New Year’s Eve against Kentucky. In those 20 losses, Louisville’s opponents have scored an average of 58.7 points against the Cardinals.

How many points will the Hoyas score against Louisville, and who will lead the team?

We’re going to go ahead and guess the average 59 points with Hollis Thompson leading the way. Post your guesses below.

Seniors vs Memphis

By Hoya Hoops

Before the game against American, we asked you how many three-pointers the Hoyas would put up against the Eagles. Georgetown converted on 6 threes, and both Julien and Bob from Columbia guessed correctly. Since neither of them got the tiebreaker – Markel Starks leading the way – they both earn a point for the win.

Tonight, the Hoyas take on Memphis for the second time this season. In Maui, Georgetown won in overtime thanks to excellent performances from seniors Henry Sims and Jason Clark who combined for 50 points. With the rematch coming on the Hoyas’ home court, we thought of this question for you:

How many points will Jason Clark and Henry Sims score against Memphis?

We’ll go with a combined 32 points. Leave your guesses below in the comments.

Threes

By Hoya Hoops

Last week’s Pregame Predictions asked you to guess which Hoya would have the best field goal percentage against Howard. Georgetown had their worst shooting game of the season against the Bison, connecting on just 32.7% of their shots, which was seven percentage points lower than their previous low. Only two players were over 50% from the field, freshmen Jabril Trawick(2-3, 66.7%) and Otto Porter(6-11, 54.5%). Since no one guessed Trawick, we are going to award the points to anyone who said Porter, which in this case was Bob from Columbia.

Georgetown next faces American University this Saturday, where the Hoyas look to get their shooting sights realigned. They especially struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just one three pointer out of 13 attempts.

How many threes will the Hoyas make, and who will lead the team?

We think the Hoyas will make seven threes, led by Jason Clark. Post your guesses in the comments.

Field Goal Percentage

By Hoya Hoops

The Hoyas started off their four-game homestand in convincing fashion, manhandling NJIT 84-44. In that game, the Georgetown underclassmen outscored the Highlanders by themselves, combining for 46 points. In our Pregame Predictions, we asked for the total number of points the Hoyas’ underclassmen would have. Emily was exactly right with her guess, so she wins this round.

Georgetown will play the first of two games against local foes tomorrow, taking on the Howard Bison, which will be followed a week later by a game against American. Against NJIT, seven Hoyas shot 50% or better from the field. That is the inspiration for this week’s question.

Which Georgetown player will have the best field goal percentage?

To make it more fair, we will say the player needs at least three attempts to qualify. We think that Henry Sims will have the best field goal percentage. Put your guesses in the comments.

Underclassmen

By Hoya Hoops

The Hoyas survived a wild game in Tuscaloosa, losing a nine point lead in the last three minutes of the game only to make a three pointer with under 2 seconds left to defeat the Crimson Tide 57-55. In that game, the Hoyas hit seven threes, with four coming from Jason Clark and two coming from Hollis Thompson, including the game winner. In the Pregame Predictions we asked how many threes the team would make. Julien was exactly right with his guess of seven, with Clark leading the way. Good job!

The Hoyas now have four game home stretch before traveling to Louisville to start conference play. The first of those games is tomorrow against NJIT. In the Alabama game, the upperclassmen trio of Clark, Thompson, and Henry Sims combined to score 47 of the team’s 57 points. We want to know if the younger players will provide more offense in the upcoming game.

How many points will the underclassmen combine for, and who will lead them?

We are guessing that the freshmen and sophomores will score 40 points, and Nate Lubick will be the high scorer among them. Let us know you point predictions in the comments.

Threes

By Hoya Hoops

Georgetown’s first game after Maui was not pretty, but after an uninspired first half the Hoyas played well enough to defeat IUPUI 81-58. We asked you to predict the number of rebounds the Hoyas would grab in that game, and with the Cougars shooting just 35% from the field on the night, there were plenty to go around. Georgetown tied their season-high with 43 rebounds, which means bobby cox was only one off. Nicely done.

The Hoyas are in Tuscaloosa tonight to take part in the Big East-SEC Challenge. Georgetown will take on the Alabama Crimson Tide at 9:30 PM. In honor of former Georgetown guard and Alabama native Jonathan Wallace, we thought we would ask a question he would approve of.

How many three pointers will Georgetown have, and who will lead the team?

We think the Hoyas will hit seven threes, led by Hollis Thompson. Give us your guesses in the comments.

Rebounds

By Hoya Hoops

The Hoyas return to the continental United States after earning a 2-1 record in the Maui Invitational, falling to Kansas, but then rebounding to defeat Chaminade and Memphis. Before the tournament, we asked you to predict which Georgetown player would lead the team in scoring. Jason Clark earned that honor, pouring in 69 points over the three game span. That means that we at Hoya Hoops were the closest with our guess that he would score 60. So, yay to us!

Tonight, the Hoyas take on IUPUI at Verizon Center. In Maui, the Hoyas had a few struggles on the boards, getting out-rebounded in two of the three games.

How many rebounds will the Hoyas have?

We think Georgetown will grab 40 rebounds led by Henry Sims, mostly because we think the defense will force a lot of missed shots. Let us know your guesses in the comments.

Scoring in Maui

By Hoya Hoops

The Hoyas handily defeated UNC-Greensboro in the mainland portion of the Maui Invitational last Wednesday, cruising to a 86-45 win. Before the game, we asked you to guess the number of blocks Georgetown would have. As it turned out, the Hoyas did not need many blocked shots to secure the victory and ended the night with only two. Since Bob from Columbia and bobby cox both guessed five blocks, they were the closest. That means that they each get a point and are tied in the lead. Nicely done.

The Hoyas now travel to Hawaii to play three more games in the Maui Invitational, starting with Kansas on Monday night/Tuesday morning. We will be having just one Pregame Predictions question for the whole tournament, and to make it interesting it will be worth two points, so the winner will jump into the lead. And here it is:

Who will lead the Hoyas in scoring during the Hawaii trip, and with how many points?

We think that Jason Clark will lead Georgetown, with 60 points in the three games. Post your answers in the comments, and be sure to get your guesses in before tip-off.

Blocks

By Hoya Hoops

The Hoyas won their season opener in comfortable fashion, beating Savannah State 83-54. The Hoyas were led by a stellar performance from Henry Sims. We asked you to predict which returning starter would have the most points. Henry’s 19 points made him the correct answer, which no one guessed. So, apparently we are not quite yet in mid-season form. Since no one got the right answer, this week’s Pregame Prediction will be worth double.

Against Savannah State, the Hoyas had 10 blocked shots, their highest total in almost two years. We wonder if Georgetown will be able to top that total today as the team squares off again UNC-Greensboro at Verizon Center.

How many blocks with the Hoyas have, and who will lead the team?

We think that Georgetown won’t quite make double digits again, and the Hoyas will end the night with eight blocked shots, including three from Henry Sims. Give us your guesses in the comments and try to get an early two point lead in the t-shirt race.
