At the 12:30 mark in the second half, the Georgetown Hoyas found themselves on the wrong side of a blowout, trailing their arch-rival Syracuse by 23 points, 60-37. But, the Hoyas would not give up without a fight.
The Hoyas suffered their biggest setback of the season, losing to Rutgers 71-68. The Hoyas looked uninspired throughout the game, while the Scarlet Knights could smell upset from the onset. Rutgers was the aggressor throughout the game, and they led by a point at halftime, 33-32.
In the game following Georgetown’s impressive thrashing of Duke, the Hoyas suffered a disappointing loss at the hands of a lesser Big East opponent. Georgetown made sure there was no such letdown after the win over Villanova. The Hoyas overcame a mid-game slump and a eight-point second half deficit to defeat Providence 79-70, improving to 8-4 in Big East play.
With a majority of the DC Metro Area blanketed in two feet of snow, the Georgetown Hoyas rebounded from a disappointing midweek loss to defeat Villanova 103-90. Thousands of Hoya faithful were forced to watch the game from home due to the blizzard, but Georgetown gave their snowed-in fans something to cheer about, handing the Wildcats their first conference loss of the season.
The Hoyas lost at Verizon Center for the first time this year, falling to South Florida 72-64. The loss comes as a setback for the Boys in Gray, as they were hoping to build momentum off the impressive win over Duke and heading into a weekend clash with Villanova.
Over 20,000 fans filled Verizon Center to see two heavyweights square off for an interconference battle. The Georgetown Hoyas turned a potential barn-burner into a laugher, easily dismantling the Duke Blue Devils 89-77 in a game that was not as close as the score suggests.
Georgetown jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first three minutes against Syracuse, but that would be as good as it got for the Hoyas. Syracuse embarrassed Georgetown from that point on, cruising to a 73-56 victory.
After an impressive mid-week win at Pittsburgh and two days before a prime-time showdown against the Orange in Syracuse, the Georgetown Hoyas easily could have overlooked Saturday’s match-up against Rutgers. They didn’t.
Georgetown entered the Petersen Events Center to take on a Pittsburgh side that had not lost at home in the last 31 games. The Hoyas broke that streak, coolly dispatching of the Panthers 74-66. Georgetown closed the game on a 20-10 run to hand the Panthers their first conference loss of the season.
For the second time in three games, the Georgetown Hoyas found themselves in a 17 point hole in the first half against a ranked Big East opponent and were able to rally to make the game close. However, unlike in Georgetown’s 72-69 win over Connecticut, the Hoyas did not score on key possession in the end of the game, and fell to Villanova 82-77, snapping a five-game winning streak against the Wildcats.
