The Georgetown Hoyas dropped their first game of the season, losing to the Kansas Jayhawks in the opening round of the Maui Invitational. The Hoyas were plagued by long stretches without baskets and a defense that game up too many uncontested dunks, most of them coming from Thomas Robinson, who led all scorers with 20 points. Jason Clark scored 15 points to lead the Hoyas.

The Georgetown Hoyas move to 2-0 with a resounding 86-45 victory over the UNC Greensboro Spartans Monday night at the Verizon Center. In their sole mainland game of the EA Sports Maui Invitational, the result was never in question thanks to a solid start from captains Jason Clark and Hollis Thompson. The two scored the team’s first 12 field goals, and had a combined 30 points at halftime when the Hoyas led 41-16.

Georgetown opened the 2011-12 season with a 83-54 win over Savannah State. The Hoyas looked cohesive despite the drastic change in personnel from last season.
The first half was close throughout until Georgetown used a late run to take an 11 point lead with under a minute to go. A three pointer by Deric Rudolph cut the lead to eight, and the Hoyas went into the locker room leading 32-24.

The Connecticut Huskies defeated the Butler Bulldogs 53-41 to win their third national championship. The Huskies were led by Kemba Walker’s 16 points, but the real story of the game was Butler’s ineptitude on the offensive end, as they shot an abysmal 18.8% from the field on the night.

The Georgetown Hoyas’ 2010-2011 has officially come to an end as the Hoyas lost their opening round NCAA Tournament game for the second straight year, falling to the VCU Rams 56-74 in Chicago. Much like last year’s loss to Ohio, Georgetown was outexecuted on the big stage, as VCU connected on 12 of their first 23 three-pointers, and ended the night shooting 48% from three.

The Georgetown Hoyas exited the Big East Tournament after just one game, falling to Connecticut 62-79. The loss extends Georgetown’s losing streak to four games and drops the Hoyas to 21-10 on the season. The Huskies advance to take on top-seeded Pittsburgh tomorrow at noon, while the Hoyas now must wait to see what their fate will be on Sunday.

The Georgetown Hoyas lost their final game of the regular season, falling to the Cincinnati Bearcats for the second time in as many weeks, losing 47-69 on the road. The Hoyas’ offensive woes continued as they only shot 32% from the field and failed to reach 25 points in either half.

The Georgetown Hoyas got back on the winning track, defeating South Florida 61-55. The Hoyas were victorious despite getting only four points from Austin Freeman, who has been slumping in recent games, perhaps still the aftereffects of his ankle injury. Chris Wright picked up the slack, scoring a season-high 26 point to lead all scorers, while Augustus Gilchrist had 22 points for the Bulls in the loss.
