Georgetown:
Georgetown came out firing on all cylinders, as it seems that the extra day of rest had them more motivated and energized for the game. The Hoyas hit ten first half three pointers, and ended up going 17-28 from downtown. When Georgetown starts out shooting well from outside, they are tough to beat. When they start out shooting unreasonably well, like they did yesterday against Villanova, they are almost impossible to stop.

The Georgetown Hoyas defeated the Villanova Wildcats 82-63 to advance to the Big East Tournament semifinal for the third straight year. The Hoyas pulled out to a 15 point lead midway through the first half and took an 11 point lead into halftime. However, Villanova started the half on a 18-3 run to take a 47-43 lead, and the game looked like it would be another nail biter for Hoya fans.

With the Quarterfinal game of the Big East Tournament between Georgetown and Villanova coming up later today, we thought this would be a good time to update you on what happened last time the two teams met. It was a close game throughout, and after 48 fouls being handed out, the game ended on two Jonathan Wallace free throws with under a second to go. The pundits called the Georgetown win controversial, lucky, or just plain wrong, but with how that game was refereed all night, it’s hard to blame Bob Donato.
Here’s the gamepage for that game with our Preview, In-Game Thread, Box Score, Recap, and Analysis. For analysis, Mikey wrote a Postgame Thoughts about what he saw at the Verizon Center, and Tony talked about Villanova’s last second woes. Also, we made a Rival Reels video for that game, which you can catch after the jump.

Before the regular season championship game, we asked you how many points the seniors would score in their final home game of their careers. Combined, Roy, Jonathan, Patrick, and Tyler scored 26 points against the Cardinals, making Sam the closest with his guess of 33. Looks like everyone went over, not expecting such a low scoring outing.
After their defeat of Syracuse, Villanova earned themselves a spot in the quarterfinals, where they will meet your Georgetown Hoyas. The last time these two teams met, the game ended on two Jonathan Wallace free throws - the 50th and 51st free throw attempts in that foul-laden game where the refs blew their whistles a whopping 48 times. So that leads to the question of the game:
How many fouls will be called in the upcoming Georgetown vs. Villanova contest, and how many will the Hoyas commit?
We’re gonna say there will be 36 fouls, 20 of which against the Hoyas. What do you think?

The Villanova Wildcats turned a one point halftime deficit into a convincing 19 point victory over Syracuse, defeating the Orange 82-63 in Big East Tournament action. The first half was sloppy, and the Wildcats stayed in the game with offensive rebounding and closed the half on an eight point run. Scottie Reynolds led all scorers with 22 points, 15 coming after the break, as the Wildcats exploded with 55 points in the second half.

Coaches often talk in clichés. I call many of those clichés “foam peanuts”. Those are the little pieces of foam that are used to protect shipped packages. Foam peanuts have a basic purpose, but they are fluffy and a little bit annoying, and there is definitely a better way to accomplish the function they are supposed to perform - just like coach clichés. One such foam peanut is the following, “We found a way to win.”

When Jonathan Wallace made the winning free throws with one tenth of a second remaining it capped another fantastic finish for the Hoyas this season. The victory was even more enjoyable for Georgetown fans since it was such an extraordinarily frustrating loss for a bitter rival.
