There were no upsets of any of the teams in the Top 10 teams in the rankings, with Georgetown and Missouri the only top ten teams to play a ranked opponent. Missouri beat #21 Illinois 75-64.
The Hoyas in the NBA went 1-2 over the Christmas weekend, with Jeff Green the only Hoya victorious. The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated Denver on Christmas 114-106, with Jeff getting 12 points and six assists. Both the Indiana Pacers and the Detroit Pistons lost their games on Boxing Day, falling to Memphis and Chicago, respectively.
DaJuan Summers saw his first action with the Detroit Pistons in over a month, earning seven minutes in their loss against the Clippers, and then playing nine minutes in the win over the Hornets last night. In the game against New Orleans, DaJuan scored eight points to go with a rebound and steal.
Georgetown went 2-0 in the week, beating #9 Missouri in overtime in Kansas City on Tuesday, and then beating Utah State at home on Saturday. The Hoyas have started the season 8-0 for the second straight year, and for the third time in four seasons.
The Hoyas moved to 6-0 with a home win over UNC Asheville on Saturday in which Austin Freeman tied the school record for threes in a game with seven.
Alonzo Mourning was named one of seven Hoyas who will be entered into the Georgetown Athletic Hall of Fame in February. The event, taking place in Leavey Center on Friday, February 25, will also include Michael Stahr, Kathryn Federici, Dean Lowry, James Kenny, Mark Marilley, and Andrew Hoffmann from various sports on the Hilltop.
In the NBA, Jeff Green and the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated Roy Hibbert and the Indiana Pacers in overtime on Friday. Big Roy put up 19 points and 10 rebounds in the loss, while Jeff scored 15 and grabbed 14 boards in the hard-fought victory. Hibbert was tough to contain until Green switched to cover his old teammate in the 4th quarter and overtime.

The Georgetown Hoyas won the third annuals Charleston Classic this weekend, defeating Coastal Carolina on Thursday, Wofford on Friday, and NC State last night. Chris Wright was named the tournament MVP and Jason Clark was also named to the All-Tournament team. The Hoyas are now 5-0 on the season and have a short Thanksgiving break, not playing again until Saturday when they take on UNC-Asheville at home.
In the NBA, Jeff Green is still out with his ankle injury. He has missed seven out of the last eight games for the Thunder and is listed as day-to-day for tonight’s game against the Timberwolves.
After missing three games with a sprained ankle, Jeff Green returned to the starting lineup with the Oklahoma City Thunder yesterday. He left the game late in the third quarter ice his ankle and had this to say:
It just got a little sore. It’s not something I want to try to push through,” said Green, Oklahoma City’s third-leading scorer. “It’s still early in the season. If it was the playoffs, yes. I don’t want to drive it to the point where I reaggravate it too much and then I’m out longer than I was before. I didn’t want to push it too much.
Allen Iverson postponed his debut in Turkey saying he “did not feel ready.” So instead of playing his first game in a #4 jersey on Friday, he will most likely have his debut tomorrow.
After being waived from the New York Knicks’ roster, Patrick Ewing Jr. headed to Nevada to attend training camp with the NBDL’s Reno Bighorns. There’s been no official word if he will be playing with them once their season starts this Saturday, but for what it’s worth, his picture in a Reno uniform has made it to the Bighorns homepage.
Memphis coach John Pastner announced on Saturday that freshman Jelan Kendrick is off the team. The McDonald’s All-American had missed 2 weeks of practice for personal reasons back before the season started, and there was no explanation for the move. The Hoyas face off against the Tigers in Memphis on Dec. 23.

The Hoya Hoop Club Open Practice took place on Saturday at McDonough, and Hoya fans got their first opportunity to see the five freshmen practicing with the team. During the question and answer session, Coach Thompson talked about the tough out-of-conference schedule and the brutal start to the Big East season with three games in six days including two road games.
Late last week, 1989 Georgetown alum Charles Smith was shot twice in the chest in his Bowie, MD home. He is in critical but stable condition.

The Big East conference has announced the 2010-11 season conference matchups, and the Hoyas will be facing Syracuse, St. John’s and Cincinnati twice this upcoming year. They will face Louisville, Pittsburgh, and West Virginia at home, while Connecticut, Notre Dame, and Villanova will only be road games. Check out the full list at GUHoyas.com.

Coach will appear on TV again in the pregame for tonight’s NCAA Championship on the CBS College Sports Network. CBS College Sports Network is located on channel 732 for DC area Comcast customers, 94 for Verizon subscribers, 152 for Dish, and 129 for RCN.
Greg Monroe was named the Pete Newell Big Man of the Year yesterday, the National Association of Basketball Coaches’ award for the country’s best post player. Greg also was named a third team All-American by both the Associated Press and the NABC.
