Comeback

By Over the Hilltop

Georgetown repeatedly fought back from the ropes against Marquette Wednesday, coming back from as much as 17 points down to escape with a thrilling, last-minute, 73-70 victory. The Hoyas’ eleventh straight win seemed not just in doubt but out of the question for much of the game, as Marquette built a large lead that Georgetown couldn’t winnow to single digits, let alone fully erase. But then both offense and defense clicked, and Georgetown closed the game on a dominant run, fueled by veterans on offense and youth on defense. In the end, the box score reflects the veteran scoring: Jason Clark led all scorers with 26, Thompson poured in 16 included the last-minute, game-winning 3, and Sims had a stat-stuffing 13 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals.

The Big Three vs. Marquette

By Tony

The Georgetown Hoyas are a balanced team. They have a very talented freshman class. They have solid role players who can provide big lifts in key moments. Most importantly however, the Hoyas have a Big Three. There are three main Hoyas who need to carry the load when the game is on the line. Period.

Teams

Georgetown:
A lot has been said about this Georgetown team. Everyone on the planet has been talking about their toughness since their trip to China; Roy Hibbert thinks they’re the best Hoya team under Coach Thompson; and the huge comeback against Marquette has people talking about their resilience and their grit. This game showed the country what the Hoyas have to offer both in terms of skill and determination. What I found impressive was how they managed to get themselves focused, motivated, and energized without any help from the home crowd. The fans at Verizon Center were very quiet from late in the second half until it was a six point game. When the Hoya faithful were doubtful their team could fight their way back into it, Jason Clark and the freshmen had to work hard to show them what Georgetown is capable of.
