Georgetown’s shooting woes continued as the Hoyas fell to the West Virginia Mountaineers 59-65, dropping to 1-3 in the Big East. The Hoyas shot 29.4% from three with Austin Freeman and Chris Wright combining for just 3-13.

Despite the poor outside shooting, Georgetown managed to stay in the game thanks to high-intensity defense and points in transition. After a back-and-forth first half, Georgetown went into the locker rooms down 25-29. Georgetown came out of the break running and quickly regained the lead, after a Chris Wright fast break three-pointer.

After that, though, West Virginia’s Casey Mitchell went off, scoring 16 of his game-high 28 points, the most any Mountaineer has ever scored against Georgetown, in the 2nd half. The Hoyas only regained the lead once more, with 10:07 left, and after that, they couldn’t get over the hump due to excessive turnovers and poor rebounding.

Jason Clark led the team with 16 points in the loss with Austin Freeman and Chris Wright only adding 11 and 9 respectively.

This was the first home loss for the Hoyas who will be back in action here on Wednesday to face the #5 Pittsburgh Panthers.
