Hello everyone. Johnny here from the Verizon Center, an hour away from tipoff between the Georgetown Hoyas and the Syracuse Orange. When Georgetown and Syracuse face off, you know it’s going to be a battle, but this game has particular importance as the Orange want to show the nation that they are one of the country’s elite and the Hoyas need a victory to stay in contention for their third consecutive Big East Title.

We may be over an hour away, but the student sections are already overflowing. (I didn’t even know they let students in this early, as they’ve been here longer than I have).

I’ll keep you posted with all the info you need and you guys know the drill by know: leave whatever thoughts and questions you have in the comments.

For now, I’ll leav you with tonight’s referees, since the starting lineups they show on the scoreboard have been known to change closer to tip-off. It’s gonna be Ed Hightower, Karl hess, and Brian O’Connell wearing the stripes.

I’ll post more when I’ve got more to say.

Here’s some interesting stuff for you:

    1) The students started singing “Hey Baby” but changed the words to “I wanna know if you’ll beat my girl” for Devendorf. It looked like he laughed a bit at that.

    2) Bryon Jansen is still not dressed. I never found out what was wrong with him after he had a crutch last week, but he didn’t seem to have any support today.

    3) Hollis Thompson was not in a suit today… because he was warming up with the team. The Hoyas are in the locker room now. I wonder if he’ll shoot around next time they come out. Right now he’s not listed on any of the roster info I have, but technically he is eligible. Coach’s plans are to redshirt him.

  2. DJ Says:

    lets go hoyas!!

  3. Johnny Says:

Hoyas are back, and Hollis is in full warmups doing drills with the team again.

  4. Johnny Says:

Here’s what I’ve got for the starting lineups:

For the Hoyas, it’ll be the usual five – Summers, Wright, Monroe, Freeman, and Sapp.
For the Orange, you’ll see Jackson, Rautins, Flynn, Harris, and Onauku out at the tip.

  5. Johnny Says:

Refs just talked with the captains and DaJuan and Jessie were met by 4 Orange players. It looked like a convention at midcourt.

  6. Johnny Says:

Man, internet’s acting up again. Looks like I’ll be posting a little less frequently, mainly from my phone. Sorry in advance for typos

  7. DJ Says:

thats alright johnny. i’m cool with now updates as long as the hoyas get a w

  8. Mike Says:

Mike here in section 120. Way too many orange shirts in this section. Let’s see if the hoyas can keep them quiet.

  9. Johnny Says:

Tip goes to Cuse and they travel.

    Summers scores 3-0

  10. Johnny Says:

Greg’s fouled but Hightower calls traveling.

  11. Johnny Says:

Nice break out leads to a Wright 3-pointer, 8-2 Hoyas

  12. DJ Says:

not great positioning, but hoyas are FIGHTING for boards

  13. Johnny Says:

10-2 Georgetown and Cuse calls timeout with 16:01 left in the half.

  14. Tony Says:

Come on Baby, keep it up!

  15. Tony Says:

That’s an amateur call, the guy is pushing with his off arm. No call, maybe, foul on Monroe-impossible!

  16. Johnny Says:

Lots of contact down low with go calls but Greg just picked up #1

  17. Johnny Says:

Hightower calls a charge on Jessie

  18. Johnny Says:

    Hand-check = #2 for Wright

  19. Johnny Says:

Nice stop by Sapp and he gets excited.

  20. DJ Says:

way to fight for it julian

  21. Johnny Says:

People talk about Greg’s passing, but Vaughn picked apart the zone that time.

  22. DJ Says:

    that cuse’s first foul?

  23. Johnny Says:

Yeah 5-1 fouls. Now 5-2. Sims to shoot

  24. Johnny Says:

Nikita is checking in for the first time in a looong time

  25. Johnny Says:

Back to back 3s for Nikita and some great hussle to save the ball. Standing ovation for #5

  26. Tony Says:

Nikita! Syracuse is like, “Who the hell is that white dude?” Let’s hope they keep leaving him open.

  27. Johnny Says:

Awesome run by the Hoyas sparked by Nikita and Henry. It’s 29-17 Hoyas. These youngins came to play today.

  28. Johnny Says:

Oh yeah. And Jason too. Nice 3 to remind me if hid contributions.

  29. Johnny Says:

Looong 3 from Freeman makes it 37-18. TO Syracuse

  30. Tony Says:

AND 2 AND THE BALL!!!! You got a problem CLOWN!

  31. Mike Says:

Summers had a monstruous dunk, but I think he got a technical.

  32. Johnny Says:

Steal, monster jam, and Summers is laying on the floor afterwards. He gets up very angry because he landed in his back after being clobbered. No intentional and the fans are upset.

  33. Johnny Says:

They did give DaJuan a tecnival. Devendirf went 1-2

  34. Johnny Says:

So confused. It was an intentional but dajuan also got a T

Next play 3 GU blocks but third one was a foul on Montoe

  35. Johnny Says:

4 point play for Austin. 47-26 Hoyas

  36. Johnny Says:

Nice half by the Hoyas and they head to the locker rooms winning 50-32

  37. Tony Says:

50 Points might be enough to win! No Let Up, please.

  38. Mike Says:

Hoyas up 18 at the break, but still plenty of basketball to be played. Also, with about three minutes left in the half, Andy Rautins went back to the lockerroom with a trainer. He got injured on a hustle play in the corner when he and Nikita dove for a loose ball.

  39. DJ Says:

great half for these youngsters. keep it up in the second!! cursh the orange

  40. Mike Says:

Three words: No Let up. Ok, maybe that’s only two words, but you get the idea.

  41. DJ Says:

hey i thought you said you werent posting that much. ill have to catch up with these posts at a timeout

  42. Johnny Says:

Not a good start to the 2nd for the Hoyas. It’s 50-40.

  43. Johnny Says:

Clark gets Hoyas scoring in the 2nd. 53-40 – Timeout Hoyas.

  44. Johnny Says:

Cuse cuts it to 8, but then Summers hits a BIG three.

  45. Johnny Says:

Chevy Chase Bank giveaway went to someone with a big fake check card that said Jack the Hoya. Jack the Hoya?? You mean Jack the Bulldog?

  46. Johnny Says:

Oh, and back from the first half.

Jiffy Lube Trivia Question for Prof. Wayne Nolan:

With 21 points and 10 rebounds vs. Notre Dame and 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists vs. Providence, Greg Monreo was named BIG EAST Roofie of the Week. How many times has he earned that title this season?
    A. 1
    B. 2
    C. 3
    D. 4

  47. DJ Says:

nice play greg. now keep pushing that lead

  48. Johnny Says:

Little run by the Hoyas has the crowd excited again

  49. Tony Says:

Good foul, Greg. Gotta make their big stiffs earn the points. Huge shot from Austin, another assist for Monroe.

  50. Tony Says:

What was the Jiffy Lube answer? C. 3?

  51. Johnny Says:

Austin is stepping it up now. He’s got 17 pts on 4-5 3PT. Hoyas lead 72-56

  52. Johnny Says:

JTIII just got a technical. He only gets them vs the Orange.

  53. Johnny Says:

Devendirf just cut it to 11, 77-66. TO Cuse 5:25 to go

  54. Mike Says:

Hoyas were in this position last game. Up by a lot with sox minutes left. Let’s see what they’ve learned.

  55. DJ Says:

come on hoyas lets close this thing out

  56. Johnny Says:

Wright is pumping up the crowd as the Hoyas kill the clock up by 14 with under a minute

  57. Johnny Says:

Summers, Wright, Clark, Freeman, and Monroe all come out to a nice ovation.

  58. Johnny Says:

Whoops, wrong about Wright. Anyway, that’ll do it. Hoyas win 88-74.

  59. Johnny Says:

That’s game 88-74. Sorry about the lack of activity. Hopefully they’ll fix the wifi here soon and I’ll do my best to cone up with an alternative.
