The Georgetown Hoyas earned their first road conference win of the season and broke a three-game losing streak in the process, defeating Rutgers 74-65. The Hoyas rediscovered their stroke from beyond the arc, going 50% on three pointers in the victory. Georgetown led from start to finish to improve to 2-4 in conference play, while the Scarlet Knights fell to 1-4 in Big East games.
Georgetown opened the game with an 8-0 run, but Rutgers quickly responded to keep the game close. The Hoyas led by six at halftime, 31-25.
The Hoyas started the second half on a 13-3 run to take a 16 point lead. However, once again Rutgers answered, going on a 15-3 run to cut the lead back to four, and it looked like Georgetown was in trouble. But Austin Freeman answered almost immediately with a three to push the lead back to seven, and the Scarlet Knights would not get closer the rest of the game.
Freeman ended the game with 25 points and nine rebounds, both game-highs, and Chris Wright added 15 points. Gilvydas Biruta had 14 points and six rebounds for the Scarlet Knights.
The Hoyas look to build off this win as the team stays on the road and takes on Seton Hall Tuesday. Game time is 7 PM at the Prudential Center.
