Georgetown @ Seton Hall: 01/25/2009
| Team | 1 | 2 | T |
| Georgetown (#12) | 27 | 33 | 60 |
| Seton Hall | 26 | 39 | 65 |
Hey everybody. We’ve got a little over fifteen minutes to go before the Big East conference matchup between the Seton Hall Pirates and the Georgetown Hoyas. This is the first time that the Hoyas travel to the Prudential Center in Newark, and the Pirate fans are excited to be honoring the 1989 Final Four team on the 20th anniversary.
The Pirates have yet to win a conference game, and this sold-out matchup with the all-stars of 1989 present might be enough motivation to get Seton Hall into the win column. Coming off of two straight losses, the Hoyas will need to step up their game to avoid that from happening.
I’ll be checking in with in-game thoughts, comments, and info, and everyone watching from home, listening on the radio, or sitting in the Prudential Center with a cellphone, you can do the same below.
January 25th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
can syracuse make sure they lose this game in a timely fashion, so we can see the start of our game?
January 25th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
The Hoyas travel to New Jersey for their first of three straight road games. Georgetown could use a little momentum, so look for the team to come out strong.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
Alright Hoyas, let’s start this game off the right way@
January 25th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
Okay, everybody, here are your starting lineups:
For the Hoyas, it’s the usual five
Summers, Wright, Monroe, Freeman, and Sapp
For the Pirates, it’s going to be
Harvey, Hazell, Gause, Mitchell, and Garcia
January 25th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
alright lets go now hoyas
January 25th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
jeez, need to make the layups hoyas, use the right hand there greg
January 25th, 2009 at 2:07 pm
Hoyas win the tip, and Monroe misses on a layup. Hoyas stop the Pirates on the other end, so it’s still 0-0
January 25th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
Too many turnovers to start this game.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
ugh, come on hoyas, can we even take some shots?
January 25th, 2009 at 2:09 pm
2 and a half minutes in, and Wright gets the scoring started. A looong two, though, not a 3.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:09 pm
big block there by dajuan, greg almost had the steal too
January 25th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
there is no way that basket should count
January 25th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
We need to take better care of the ball.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
Sapp tried to force a pass to Monroe, but he hurried back on defense to stop the breakout. Instead, he gets called for a foul and Hazell scores the layup.
Looked to me like the foul was before the shot, but 3-point play for the Pirates.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:12 pm
Nice one Chris.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
Well, I guess I was wrong. Early on the Hoyas are looking sloppy, a scary trend that is developing with this team.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:16 pm
lets try to get the ball to monroe down low
January 25th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
good steal by wright, he’s gotta try to be a ltitle more aware on teh break though, if he can dump that behind him monroe is wide open for a dunk.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
First sub of the game for the Hoyas, Sapp out, Clark in.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
we cant hit a shot again
January 25th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
Not much of a foul there
January 25th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
Wattad and Vaughn enter the game, giving Monroe and Freeman breathers.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
We need to string together some good possessions to get into the swing of things.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
At the 12 minute timeout of the first half, Hoyas trail 12-9. They’re not looking good offensively, turning it over and missing from long range.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
nice important basket there from vaughn
January 25th, 2009 at 2:26 pm
man, summers is clutch
January 25th, 2009 at 2:26 pm
Yay DaJuan….I love you!
January 25th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
yes! vaughn go to work!
January 25th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
Nice post moves by Vaughn right there, Hoyas have the lead 16-14.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:28 pm
wow, teams are combined 1-12 on threes, pretty ugly.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
no no no no he did not step on the line, i was watching!
January 25th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
Five on the floor for the Hoyas: Monroe, Summers, Wright, Sapp, and Clark
January 25th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
jeez, our offense looks pretty bad.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
finally! good work from greg, now hit the fts
January 25th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
dajuan, be aware of that double team!
January 25th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
Seventh foul on the Pirates means that DaJuan Summers will go to the line to shoot one-and-one.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
Nikita replaces DaJuan.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
woooo!! where has that jessie been all year??
January 25th, 2009 at 2:41 pm
Jessie made half the Pirates look silly and Seton Hall needs a timeout.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:41 pm
Way to go Sappie….let’s keep that up
January 25th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
run the offense now, boys
January 25th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
finally!!!!! some rebounds!!
January 25th, 2009 at 2:47 pm
Can they stop calling him Wootad?
January 25th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
This announcer calls Omar woo-tad. I like it.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
Good hustle from Wattad saves the ball after getting his own rebound after missing a three.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
lets get a defense now
January 25th, 2009 at 2:49 pm
again need the fts
January 25th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
wow, thats gonna be a huge swing if tehy make the both
January 25th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
wow, that is the worst 40 seconds of basketball we have played all season.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
What a miserable half. We need to pick it up big time in the 2nd.
January 25th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
Collapse at the end of the half, makes it 27-26 Georgetown, after the Hoyas were winning by 7 just moments ago.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
all right hoyas, need to come out focused, lets punish them in the first five minutes.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:11 pm
wow, huge shot from jessie. some one needs to tbe willing to take some shots
January 25th, 2009 at 3:12 pm
i love it how dajuan just sits there this time…he learned his lesson from the syracuse game.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:12 pm
Summers turns it over on a sloppy pass, he hustles back, blocks a shot, then he starts the break, goes up for a big slam, gets intentionally fouled. This time, he stayed down, focusing on not getting a T.
Meanwhile, Garcia and Sapp get double techs.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:13 pm
dajuan!!!! make the free throws, man!
January 25th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
lets go now hoyas, gotta do it right now, we have the momentum, they are feeling mistreated so their heads are not in the game. take advantage of it. and it starts from the ft line.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
dude, no foul there at all
January 25th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
Come on, Hoyas. Let’s go!
January 25th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
did the pirates oil up the ball? its been sliding out of our hands a lot this gmae.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
Good job, Austin.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
Yes, Sappie! I love you, too.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
Sapp with two threes? What is this 2008?
January 25th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
yeah yeah yeah!!! he looked real good on that one
January 25th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
beautiful offense there, lets find our rhythm now.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:21 pm
Hoyas are back up by seven, 40-33, at the 16 minute timeout
January 25th, 2009 at 3:24 pm
wow, again not a foul there. but come on hoyas, we are letting them back in the game.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:28 pm
jeez, wattad, gottta make that one.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:29 pm
man, the refs are bailing this guy out.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
again, need the free throws.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:32 pm
wow, they shoved wattad in the back, and somehow the foul goes against omar.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:33 pm
Let’s hit these FTs Chris.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:34 pm
lets go now hoyas, relax
January 25th, 2009 at 3:35 pm
ugh
January 25th, 2009 at 3:36 pm
I think they need to call a few more out-of-bounds calls. There haven’t been nearly enough.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
are you kidding me? this guy hasnt made a shot all day? why bail him out?
January 25th, 2009 at 3:39 pm
box out
January 25th, 2009 at 3:40 pm
Three free throws for Hazell cuts the lead to 4. Hoyas winning 44-40
January 25th, 2009 at 3:40 pm
its a good luck for sapp, big rebound for dajuan, but we need every point we can get, so hit the fts.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:40 pm
Good rebound DaJuan. Big FTs here.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:41 pm
how about a defense/
January 25th, 2009 at 3:42 pm
this game is way to close for comfort, can we go on a little run please?
January 25th, 2009 at 3:43 pm
Come on Hoyas.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:44 pm
we’re freaking out totally. just losing control again.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:44 pm
There is no need to panic. Good time out.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
wow, just totally confused.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
We need a hoop.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
i mean, i hope we win this game, but the way we are playing we are gonna need to get lucky. We are such a better team than we have shown the last few games. Hopefully we can turn it around in these last seven minutes.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
Sloppy play for the Hoyas has given the Pirates the lead 47-46 with 7:45 to go in the game.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
not a good look coming out of a timeout
January 25th, 2009 at 3:51 pm
we have seven minutes to save our season. If we lose today, its gonna make it an uphill battle the rest of the way.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
Good job Chris. Now let’s play some D
January 25th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
lets go!! get a stop!
January 25th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
Monroe is getting attacked in there.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:53 pm
Nice composure there by Greg, as he gets the first field goal for the Hoyas in a loooong time.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:53 pm
wow, what a horrible call there. we did nothing at all.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:54 pm
Thank goodness. Good shot Greg.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:55 pm
come on hoyas!!!! lets play smart!! make th ft greg and make them earn their points!!!
January 25th, 2009 at 3:55 pm
gotta grab that ball austin
January 25th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
way to go greg, taking it strong. keep it up!
January 25th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
Big play from Monroe.
January 25th, 2009 at 3:58 pm
we cannot win this game if every time we miss they get a fast break lay up!
January 25th, 2009 at 3:59 pm
Down by three, with the ball, Georgetown wants a timeout. There’s less than 4 minutes to go, so the next whistle will be the official.
January 25th, 2009 at 4:00 pm
three minutes to save the season… come on boys
January 25th, 2009 at 4:00 pm
Thank goodness that went out of bounds on them.

January 25th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
Come on Hoyas
January 25th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
Hoyas down three with 1:37 to play, Monroe gets fouled and will shoot two. Garcia fouls out for the Pirates.
January 25th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
need the fts, and we are gonna need a defense too. but worry about hitting these first
January 25th, 2009 at 4:07 pm
Monroe misses both, Sapp gets the rebound and dishes to Summers who gets fouled.
January 25th, 2009 at 4:07 pm
come on, we get another chance, lets make them this time.
January 25th, 2009 at 4:07 pm
Come on DaJuan
January 25th, 2009 at 4:08 pm

January 25th, 2009 at 4:12 pm
Hazell misses the first and makes the second. 36.8 seconds to go, Hoyas down two, 62-60. Seton Hall uses another timeout.
January 25th, 2009 at 4:13 pm
The Seton Hall pep band is playing the music from Pirates of the Caribbean. That must be their crunch-time music.
January 25th, 2009 at 4:14 pm
oh no
January 25th, 2009 at 4:14 pm
Summers misses an open three, and Seton Hall will go to the line up two with 22.2 seconds to go.
January 25th, 2009 at 4:14 pm
We just can’t hit a three.
January 25th, 2009 at 4:15 pm
they keep bailing us out!! now get the rebound if he misses
January 25th, 2009 at 4:15 pm
Harvey misses the first and makes the second. 63-60 Seton Hall. Pirates use their last timeout with 22.2 seconds to go.
January 25th, 2009 at 4:15 pm
alright hoyas, we are gonna get one more good look, if we make it, we go to overtime and all is for forgiven.
January 25th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
Sapp airballs a three, and Hazell will go to the line up by 3 with 8.1 seconds to go.

They added some time, so it’s 8.6 seconds left.
January 25th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
That’s game. Hoyas lose 65-60 to the had-been-winless Pirates.
