The Georgetown Hoyas won their third straight conference game, convincingly defeating St. John’s 77-52 and ending a two game home losing streak. The 7,160 fans who braved the snow to make their way to Verizon Center were treated to a dominating performance by their Hoyas, who avenged their loss to the Red Storm three weeks ago.
Georgetown started out efficiently on offense, but St. John’s kept the game close until halfway through the first half when the Hoyas began to take over. With 11:22 remaining, Hollis Thompson, coming off the bench for the first time this season, hit a three pointer to take the lead, and they never turned back. Georgetown closed out the half on a 10-0 run to take a 13 point lead into halftime, 40-27.
The Red Storm started the second half on a 9-1 run of their own to cut the lead to five, but Georgetown responded and quickly pushed the lead back to 13 at the 12:00 media time out. The lead would never get below 11 the rest of the way, and the Hoyas cruised to victory.
Jason Clark led nine Hoyas on the score sheet with 16 points, with Hollis Thompson and Austin Freeman adding 15 and 14 respectively. Justin Burrell led the Red Storm with 12 points.
The Hoyas next travel up to Philadelphia to take on Villanova at the Wells Fargo Center. That game is slated for 12 PM on Saturday.
