Mike’s UNC Greensboro Postgame Thoughts

Georgetown:
The Hoyas dominated the Spartans from start to finish in their opening game of the Maui Invitational. The Hoyas started the game on a 12-2 run and never looked back. They used an oppressive defense to generate ten steals and forced UNC Greensboro into a total of 22 turnovers over the course of the game.
Offensively, the Hoyas got out into transition more, using their pressure defense to create steals and turn them in to easy points. Georgetown continues to share the ball, finding the open man regardless of who it is. As a result, ten Hoyas got on the score sheet. We know that the real test will come when the Hoyas actually get to Hawaii, but still the Hoyas looked very strong in this game.
Walkover
By Over the HilltopGeorgetown turned on the pressure early and never relented Monday night, storming past the visiting UNC-Greensboro Spartans en route to a 86-45 victory. Unlike Saturday, when the Hoyas started slowly before closing emphatically, Georgetown stifled the Spartans from the tip Monday, amassing early leads from 13-4 and 20-6 and allowing just 16 points in the first half. Their swarming defense and energy on the boards generated plenty of extra possessions on the offensive end, where Jason Clark and Hollis Thompson led the way, making the Hoyas’ first 12 baskets and finishing with 19 points apiece. Hollywood provided long-range accuracy, hitting five threes in all, while Clark got it done all over the court, finishing at the rim, distributing to his teammates, and also stroking from deep.
