The Georgetown Hoyas move to 2-0 with a resounding 86-45 victory over the UNC Greensboro Spartans Monday night at the Verizon Center. In their sole mainland game of the EA Sports Maui Invitational, the result was never in question thanks to a solid start from captains Jason Clark and Hollis Thompson. The two scored the team’s first 12 field goals, and had a combined 30 points at halftime when the Hoyas led 41-16.
In the second half, the other Hoyas got their turn as sophomores Markel Starks and Nate Lubick scored the Hoyas’ first nine points. For most of the second period, though, the attention was on the freshmen who played a combined 65 2nd half minutes, including Tyler Adams’ first action after missing the season opener with an ankle sprain. To cap off the 31 point victory, Jabril Trawick, Midnight Madness 2011 dunk contest champion, threw down a powerful one-handed slam at the buzzer.
The Hoyas’ next game is one week from today as they face off against Kansas in the Championship Round of the tournament in Maui. Tipoff is scheduled for 11:50pm, but that depends on the timing of the games earlier in the day.
