The Georgetown Hoyas opened the 2008-09 season with a win over the Jacksonville Dolphins, 71-62. The Hoyas struggled offensively for the first part of the game, but their tough defense held their opponents without a field goal for the opening six minutes. Georgetown closed the half with a late surge powered by Chris Wright’s three three-pointers. The Hoyas led by 12 at the break.
In the second half, the Hoyas continued to struggle to find a rhythm while the Dolphins hung around and chipped away. Jacksonville cut the lead the four with 4:12 remaining, but the Hoyas sealed the win from the free throw line, making their last nine attempts. Four Hoyas scored in double figures, led by 16 from Chris Wright, who also had five rebounds and four assists. Freshman Greg Monroe had 14 points to go along with seven rebounds and three blocks, but was limited to only 28 minutes due to foul trouble.
The Hoyas return to Verizon Center this Saturday to take on the Drexel Dragons of the CAA at 1 PM.
