Georgetown extended to 6-0 on the season with an 87-72 win over UNC Asheville in front of over 10,000 Hoya faithful in Verizon Center. Austin Freeman led all scorers with 32, including going 7-9 from three-point land, tying the Georgetown record set by Mark Tillmon and also tied by Darrel Owens.
The two teams played evenly for the first four minutes of the game, until the Hoyas broke through with a 23-0 run to make it 30-7. The Bulldogs fought back to make it only 17 at the break, trailing the Hoyas 44-27.
The second half started with two more threes from Austin Freeman to push the lead back up to 26, and the Bulldogs could not fight back from that deficit. Guards J.P. Primm and Matt Dickey led the Bulldogs with 17 and 15 respectively, but they couldn’t cut the lead to anything closer than 12.
The Hoyas face the #11 Missouri Tigers next on Tuesday at 9:00pm.
