The Georgetown Hoyas earned their fifth straight victory, cruising to a 84-44 victory over the NJIT Highlanders.

The Hoyas started off strong breaking out to an early 14 point lead thanks to sharp shooting. Georgetown converted on four of their first five three-point attempts and ended the game just under 50% at 14-29 from distance. The Hoyas let their foot off the gas about halfway through the first half, and the Highlanders kept the game within striking distance until the break when they trailed 42-28.

To start the second half, Georgetown went on an 18-0 run that put the game out of reach for NJIT. The large lead gave Coach Thompson the opportunity to leave his six freshmen in the game longer than usual. The six freshmen played a combined 108 minutes and scored 33 of the Hoyas’ points.

Hollis Thompson led the Hoyas with 20 points, off of 7-10 shooting including 6-7 three from long range. Freshmen Mikael Hopkins. and Tyler Adams each added career-highs, Hopkins with 12 and Adams with 8 points.

Georgetown has a week off before they play at Verizon Center next Saturday against the Howard University Bison. That game will be aired locally on MASN, and tipoff is scheduled for noon.
