Johnny here at the Phone Booth, an hour before tipoff between the Georgetown Hoyas and cross-town rivals, the American Eagles.
Odd time for a start, but the usual suspects from the student sections are already here having a late lunch and getting ready for tipoff. The teams are doing some preliminary warmups, and Chris Wright and Jerrelle Benimon are sporting Nike Super G t-shirts ala the early 2000s student section.
No starting lineups for you yet, but I’ll be sure to post that and any other news I find as soon as I get it. For now, the refs: Lamar Simpson, Michael Stephens, and Tim Clougherty.
December 5th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
Tyler Crawford is sitting directly behind the bench tonight.
December 5th, 2009 at 3:52 pm
Hey Johnny. Look to your right.
December 5th, 2009 at 3:56 pm
Love the super G shirts. Still have one myself. Does anyone know if the guhoyas.com feed is only for paying subscribers?
December 5th, 2009 at 4:03 pm
Starting lineups for you:
For the Eagles, it’s going to be:
Grafft, Lumpkins, McCormick, Jolivette, and Hendra
And for the Hoyas, it’s your usual 5:
Wright, Clark, Freeman, Vaughn, and Monroe
December 5th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
Hoyas win the tip (after it was knocked around for a while), and Vaughn starts the scoring with a drive.
December 5th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
@Paul H:
It looks to me like it’s only for paid subscribers, but I’m not 100% sure.
December 5th, 2009 at 4:11 pm
That’s all I could figure also, and there is supposed to be a feed on channelsurfing.net but it doesn’t seem to be working. Hopefully I won’t miss anything exciting.
December 5th, 2009 at 4:12 pm
Eagles lead 5-4 with a chance for one more after the 16:00 timeout.
December 5th, 2009 at 4:13 pm
And now the cheerleaders are running out Chipotle burritos to the fans. This is the greatest thing ever.
They do the “Burrito Dash” at Wizards games, and I could not be happier that, in this regard, the Hoyas are trying to be more like the Wizards
December 5th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
Hollis is subbing in for Vaughn as the first Hoya off the bench.
December 5th, 2009 at 4:18 pm
Hollis’ 3 just gave the Hoyas the lead back, 9-7
December 5th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
Listening to Chvotkin…Deep 3 from Thompson apparantly. 4th lead change, definitively.
December 5th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
1st tie at 9.
December 5th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
Temple down early to Penn State…come on Owls, help our RPI!
December 5th, 2009 at 4:22 pm
Clark’s breakaway dunk gives Georgetown its biggest lead – 7.
December 5th, 2009 at 4:26 pm
Another dunk by Clark makes it 19-9, and the fans are chanting “Ja-son Clark”. American timeout.
December 5th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
Chvots said “…left to right across your dial. Anybody in college right now know what a radio dial is?”
December 5th, 2009 at 4:37 pm
Big block by Sims makes the fans happy.
December 5th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
For the Dress Like a Hoya competition, they have brought out the actual Peri Peri chicken to stand out at center court watching the kids put on a Gerald Riley jersey and an inside out ?? Maybe Tony Bethel?
December 5th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
Normally perfect Jason Clark missed the front end of a 1 and 1.
December 5th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
And birthday boy Vee Sanford has entered the game, and he’s already picked up a quick rebound.
December 5th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
If that’s four steals for Clark so far this half, this number matches his career high.
December 5th, 2009 at 4:45 pm
Clark! You’ll never catch Gerald Riley’s FT% record at this rate!
December 5th, 2009 at 4:46 pm
What’s Peri Peri?
December 5th, 2009 at 4:47 pm
@Jon
We’ll have to wait for the official stats to see if he got credited for those 4 steals.
No question, though, Henry has matched his career high with 8 points.
December 5th, 2009 at 4:48 pm
Hoyas up 11, with Monroe having a quiet first half. We’ll see if he asserts himself more in the second.
December 5th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
@Zo,
Nando’s Peri Peri is a Portuguese chicken place, and there’s one right across the street from Verizon Center . It’s pretty good.
December 5th, 2009 at 4:54 pm
@Jon, yep career high 4 steals for Clark
December 5th, 2009 at 5:03 pm
To start the second half, another steal for Clark – that’s 5!
December 5th, 2009 at 5:06 pm
Greg’s four straight points means American needs a timeout. They’re trailing the Hoyas 23-40.
December 5th, 2009 at 5:12 pm
Any chance they could combine promotions and fill the giant t-shirt cannon with Chipotle burritos?
December 5th, 2009 at 5:12 pm
@Jon,
If they filled the DC Lottery Gatling Gun with Chipotle burritos, I would be in heaven.
December 5th, 2009 at 5:17 pm
These fans behind me in the student section keep calling Stephen Lumpkins, “Fuzzy Lumpkins” in honor of the Powerpuff Girls villain.
December 5th, 2009 at 5:25 pm
Get Offa my PROPERTY!
December 5th, 2009 at 5:31 pm
With those 2 free throws, that marks the first time Henry Sims has reached double digits in scoring.
“We Are …Georgetown”
December 5th, 2009 at 5:32 pm
Chvotkin said, “Mescheriakov set to come in for the shooter Simms, so, if you want to stay in, you miss!”
December 5th, 2009 at 5:37 pm
Students are singing “Happy Birthday” to Vee. He missed a three.
December 5th, 2009 at 5:39 pm
Greg missed the front end of the one and one, so he couldn’t break into double figures.
December 5th, 2009 at 5:41 pm
Coach called a quick timeout for a sub – no pause in the action – and he took out Greg. I think that’s the end of the night for Greg. He ends with 9 points and 13 rebounds, 1 free throw away from his 7th career double-double.
December 5th, 2009 at 5:48 pm
Benimon took it hard to the hole, and picked up his first points as a Hoya.
December 5th, 2009 at 5:49 pm
Coach Thompson clears the bench – Dougherty and Stepka enter the game.
December 5th, 2009 at 5:50 pm
A repeat play from Beinimon gives him two more. And with 4.3 seconds left, Benimon picks up foul #3.
December 5th, 2009 at 5:52 pm
That’ll do it for this one. Hoyas win 73-46. Next game is on Tuesday, against the Butler Bulldogs in Madison Square Garden.
December 5th, 2009 at 5:53 pm
Fuzzy Lumpkins was 1-17 FG, WOW!
