Hey everybody, Johnny here courtside at Verizon Center for the game between your Georgetown Hoyas and the FIU Golden Panthers. Empty student section, empty arena, and empty press row. So much so, that I’m on the sideline right near midcourt.
Big news in the starting lineups – no Jessie Sapp.
For the Hoyas, it’s Summers, Wright, Monroe, Freeman, and #31 Omar Wattad earning his first start.
For FIU, it’s going to be Asprilla, Essola, Taylor, Bright, and Dominguez.
National anthems up now.

Wataaad?
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:34 pm
Anthem’s done. The shock of Omar over Jessie is slowly dying, and we’re about to tip off here.
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:34 pm
Hoyas win the jump and Wright nails a three on the first possession.
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:35 pm
Defensive stop, and then a three for Freeman. 6-0
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:38 pm
Hoyas are hot early, three threes to start the game.
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:38 pm
3-3 from 3. #3 hit #3. 9-2
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:40 pm
At the 16:00 timeout, Hoyas are up 11-4.
I forgot to mention this before – refs are Mike Stuart, Sean Hull, and Frank Scagliotta.
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:40 pm
Is sapp there? Dressed?
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:41 pm
Jessie is here and in uniform. No clue on why there’s the change, and I don’t want to speculate. Looks like coach’s decision for now.
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:43 pm
There’s the Hoyas’ first miss – from Greg from the stripe. He hit the second though.
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:44 pm
like the shooting!
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:44 pm
nice alleyoop. Better yet, Dajuan didn’t miss the dunk
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:44 pm
First Hoya off the bench? Jason Clark. Sapp’s still watching.
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:45 pm
Three from Clark. This is getting a bit ridiculous. Oh, and 2nd sub? Julian Vaughn.
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:47 pm
not perfect
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:48 pm
Sapp just took off his warmup and headed to the scorer’s table.
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:49 pm
At 11:28, we have the 12 minute timeout, and Jessie will be coming in once we get back. Hoyas are winning 20-4.
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Sims in for Summers.
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:54 pm
woulda been a fun block
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Jessie hits a three. Fifth player with points from downtown.
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:57 pm
nice block!
December 23rd, 2008 at 7:58 pm
Nice take by Freeman for two. Hoyas up 32-9. Sorry, 35-9 (‘nother three for Austin)

Jiffy Lube Trivia Question time.
Which of these Georgetown players is not originally from the D.C. metropolitan area?
A. Jason Clark
B. DaJuan Summers
C. Greg Monroe
D. Julian Vaughn
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:02 pm
um.. B and C
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:12 pm
I say it again. He’s no Roy Hibbert. Greg just missed another three. I think that’s his second attempt on the season.
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:14 pm
That fast break brought back memories of Allen Iverson and Victor Page. Wright and Clark just flew down the court. In the end, it was a layup instead of a dunk though.
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:16 pm
That’s the half. 43-16 Hoyas. So in ranking the first half opponents, FIU came in better than both American and Savannah State, worse than Maryland, Mount St. Mary’s, and everyone else.
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Finally. Omar’s been shooting a bunch this second half. He just now hit his first field goal – and becomes the Hoyas’ sixth player with a three.
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:39 pm
The Hoyas started off the first half shooting 4-4, 3-3 from three. The Golden Panthers started off the second half exactly the same way.
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:41 pm
Austin is shooting out of his mind today – 6-8, 5-5 from downtown.
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:41 pm
that woke me up
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:41 pm
Another Wright-Summers alley-oop for you.
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:43 pm
There’s Austin’s first missed three.
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Fans here are booing the D.C. Lottery Gatling Gun. I guess they didn’t catch enough T-Shirts
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:53 pm
You know the fans are bored when they start doing the wave during a basketball game.
December 23rd, 2008 at 8:57 pm
Mike just won Gordon Biersch fan of the game again. This time the HoyaHoops.com sign read:
Our D is as stingy as Ebenezer Scrooge.
Old Scrooge, that is. New Scrooge is a very generous man.
December 23rd, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Sims = Hoya #7 with a three pointer.
December 23rd, 2008 at 9:07 pm
Asprilla for FIU just fouled out. With the score 71-32 and 3:30 to go, I’m gonna go ahead and say the Hoyas are breaking the consecutive home win streak set back in the 1920s.
December 23rd, 2008 at 9:08 pm
Congrats Mike.
December 23rd, 2008 at 9:09 pm
Jansen’s set to check in. Everyone else has played and scored today, so the pressure’s on for Bryon.
December 23rd, 2008 at 9:13 pm
And it looks like he’ll be going to the line to shoot two.
