Hey everyone. After getting snowed out of the Old Dominion game, the snow also caused me to show up to this game only five minutes prior to tip-off. This area is not prepared for over 12 inches of snow.
Verizon Center is surprisingly crowded for there being no students and for this game taking place at noon on a workday.
Anyway, I’ll just cut to the chase:
Hoyas are starting the same five: Wright, Clark, Freeman, Vaughn, and Monroe.
Harvard is starting Webster, Lin, McNally, Miller, and Wright.
Refs are going to be Brian O’Connell, Tony Greene, and Gene Steratore.
December 23rd, 2009 at 12:04 pm
Anthem’s over (thanks to Dr. Vincent Kelly as Santa Claus), lineups announced, and it’s time to start this game up.
December 23rd, 2009 at 12:05 pm
Vaughn wins the tip and the Hoyas come up empty on their first possession as Wright drove into a crowd and forced up a shot.
December 23rd, 2009 at 12:07 pm
Harvard’s Wright has four points off of two layups, but Austin cuts the lead to 4-3 with a three-point play on the other end.
December 23rd, 2009 at 12:08 pm
Two more free throws for Austin, and all nine points so far have come from Freeman and Wright. Unfortunately, that’s Keith Wright of Harvard not Chris.
December 23rd, 2009 at 12:11 pm
A dunk from Harvard? What???
December 23rd, 2009 at 12:11 pm
Hoyas trail 7-10, and we’ve reached the first timeout of the game.
December 23rd, 2009 at 12:17 pm
Mike here in section 120. I dont know what johnny’s talking about. Verizon center is empty.
December 23rd, 2009 at 12:18 pm
With no Nikita anywhere to be seen, the first subs for the Hoyas are Hollis and Henry
December 23rd, 2009 at 12:19 pm
@Mike: I mean, there are people here. That’s surprisingly crowded.
Lower bowl isn’t empty except directly behind me. And there are some people in the upper decks.
December 23rd, 2009 at 12:23 pm
We’re at the 12:00 timeout and the Hoyas are winning by one: 18-17.
Clark has two fouls, and the Hoyas have already committed three turnovers. Bigger issue I think is the rebounding: 6-1 Harvard. It’s still pretty early though.
December 23rd, 2009 at 12:25 pm
Great defense coming out of the timeout – Harvard never had an inch of space. Now there’s one second on the shot clock, and Greg steals it.
December 23rd, 2009 at 12:27 pm
Great body control by Freeman helps him execute the three-point play.

Jiffy Lube Trivia Question:

December 23rd, 2009 at 12:35 pm
Or if I read it like the guy here at Verizon Center:
A. American
B. Jacksonville
C. Florida INTERNATIONAL
D. Mount St. Mary’s
December 23rd, 2009 at 12:39 pm
Chris was way late at intercepting that pass, but he still managed to get there in time to poke it away and get a breakway layup – real quickness shown there.
December 23rd, 2009 at 12:41 pm
At the 4:00 timeout, Hoyas are only winning by two, 33-31. They went on a little run to push the lead to eight earlier, but Harvard has clawed their way right back.
December 23rd, 2009 at 12:42 pm
Gerald Riley knocked out Trenton Hillier in the Dress like a Hoya contest.
December 23rd, 2009 at 12:44 pm
Sloppy play is allowing Harvard to stay in the game.
December 23rd, 2009 at 12:45 pm
Failed alley-oop attempt from Greg to Chris led to a fast break for Harvard and a tie game.
December 23rd, 2009 at 12:48 pm
Greg is really feeling it (or as Mark Tillmon might say “feeling himself”) as he just got a pair of rebounds, sent a nice outlet for a Freeman three, and drew a charge against Harvard’s Lin.
December 23rd, 2009 at 12:50 pm
Big time hustle plays by Monroe gets the crowd excited as the Hoyas stretch the lea to 11 with under a minute to play in the first half.
December 23rd, 2009 at 12:52 pm
That’s the end of Half #1. Hoyas lead 44-31.
Freeman and Wright both had a nice first halves with game-leading 13 points each.
But in the final minutes, it was all Greg who was one rebound away from a first half double-double.
December 23rd, 2009 at 12:54 pm
Nice run by the Hoyas. An 11-0 spurt to end the half up 44-33. We need to see that intensity all game long.
December 23rd, 2009 at 1:08 pm
Vaughn blocked Wright’s shot on one end, and then Keith returned the favor on the other end to start the 2nd half.
December 23rd, 2009 at 1:10 pm
Now Greg’s got that double-double.
December 23rd, 2009 at 1:25 pm
At this timeout, Austin’s still sitting on the bench, while everyone else is standing on the court.
He got poked in the eye a couple plays back, and he asked to get subbed out.
Now he’s got a bag of ice against his left eye.
December 23rd, 2009 at 1:27 pm
Biggest lead of the game for the Hoyas, 21 points.
December 23rd, 2009 at 1:29 pm
Great ball movement led to an open three for Chris. He has 23.
December 23rd, 2009 at 1:31 pm
Clark just picked up his fourth personal, and the Hoyas already have 7 team fouls in the 2nd half. Harvard has 2.
December 23rd, 2009 at 1:34 pm
Austin’s back in, and he again drives into contact. I guess his eye’s fine.
December 23rd, 2009 at 1:36 pm
The Fan of the Game search is on.
Mike got on the big screen with his sign:
Happy Hoyadays!
December 23rd, 2009 at 1:39 pm
Chris Wright’s three gave him a career high 26 points.
December 23rd, 2009 at 1:42 pm
Clark missed a three, grabbed his own rebound and went up with it. But they called an offensive foul on Jason – his fifth.
Clark fouls out with 8 points.
December 23rd, 2009 at 1:42 pm
Not a good call on Clark’s fifth foul.
December 23rd, 2009 at 1:46 pm
Chris just hit 30 points.
December 23rd, 2009 at 1:47 pm
The stats here say the last time a Hoya hit 30 points was Mike Sweetney in January of 03, but that is 100% false.
December 23rd, 2009 at 1:53 pm
Greg just picked up his career high in rebounds – 16
December 23rd, 2009 at 1:54 pm
Chris gets subbed out to a standing ovation as he scored 34 today.
December 23rd, 2009 at 1:55 pm
Now Austin is subbed out. He also matched a career high with his 21 points.
December 23rd, 2009 at 1:57 pm
That’ll do it. Hoyas win handedly, 86-70 thanks to career efforts from Chris Wright, Austin Freeman, and Greg Monroe.
December 23rd, 2009 at 2:02 pm
Happy Holidays right back at you HoyaHoops- love half days at work and free feeds on guhoyas- nice win Hoyas!
